Very unforgiving, requires one type of shot- high and soft to small, hard greens. No chipping areas or bump and run opportunities. And TOO many houses in the way of errant shots. I'm a 10 and found the course basically unfair. Good conditions however.

Virginia Oaks seems to have reassessed its pricing policy in the past two years and has positioned itself as a cheaper alternative to the upscale daily fee courses while still offering all the challenges of those courses. The conditions are not quite stellar, but they are a lot more palatable than when this course charged top dollar. Pace OK on weekend, with backup on 10. Layout takes some getting used to, but keeps your interest, particularly the greens.

This is a course that has few level lies in the fairway and very undulating greens. Pace of play is very slow even during the week. This is a lower handicapper course, under 15 I would say, otherwise you are in for a long day. Views of Lake Manassas and RTJ from the 3rd green to the 5th which are quite nice. Houses abound so keep your slice in the car.

This is one of my favorite courses in the area. The fairways were in great shape this past weekend as were the tee boxes and the deep rough. The greens had been aerated recently with lots of sand which made them barely puttable. In a couple weeks I'm sure it will be back to the form I'm used to. A great value course at $44 a round

A course that will drive you crazy the first time you play it and if you survive the first round then you probably won't go back. To say the course is difficult is a fair assumption. Blind tee shots lots of sloping angles and the rough this past week would have made the USGA setup at the U.S. Open embarrassed. Anything over a 15 handicap will have a long and hard day at Virginia Oaks. The only redeeming quality is the nice holes along the lake. But if you’re a Sadist you might love the place.

Played early morning and the course is in great shape. I was surprised how nice bunkers were. Greens had been aerated about 4 weeks earlier and were in just OK shape.

I read the reviews below and was worried. Played it a number of years ago, and thought it was all too much "subdivision golf". Well, I was happily surprised at the course. It's an interesting and challenging layout, a little gimmicky, but not too bad. At least today, the conditions were quite good. Greens a little slow, but need to be with the severe slopes. Staff was reasonably nice. Pace was reasonable. A little costly, but the reduced rate tie-in with Reston is good.

I give this course a bogey because this past weekend there was a 30 to 40 min delay off the first tee. This has become common on the weekends here and there is no Marshall. I had a 3 hour front nine. If you do not have a Virginia players pass, this course is not worth the money or time waiting on the tee. As mentioned in the cover story "nickel and dime you", there was no water in the coolers on the course either. This course is worth playing, just not on the weekends anymore.

They must have cut the greens since Jason played, as I played today, and the greens were not slow at all. I probably wouldn't pay $90 to play this course, but for $39 (with lunch) early on a Sunday afternoon, it's a steal. The views on this course are great, especially the peninsula green on #4, with a view of Lake Manassas and RTJ. Add in the fact that this course is often uncrowded when other area courses are packed. For between $40 and $70, it's way better than a muni.

I played the course yesterday and the greens were in poor conditions. The course can play tough because the holes have a lot of gimmicks. The greens were very slow and the staff was rude and not very helpful. I do not think I will make the drive to play there again.

Played here 2 weeks ago....now I'm a new golfer and I haven't played in many places...but this was by far the WORST. I'm just glad we had a discount coupon for 65 bucks and not the 90 dollar regular rate. It's a shame the layout is nice but the course was in pathetic condition...save your money.

I understand this summer has been hard on courses but this coulrse was in the worst condition I have ever seen. Most fairways have huge spots void of grass and number 14 basically has no grass anywhere. It's not worth $20 for a round, let alone the $90 they want. Had I known the conditions were that bad I would never have played there. Wait until next year.

Tight course, crappy conditions. Homes are too close to the holes. Tough design as are all PB Dye courses. Not worth the price.

The course is in good condition this year and is consistently one of the more difficult courses I play. Undulating greens make it tough to salvage errant approach shots. I think the course is being managed a little better this year. The last two years folks in the pro shop have been slow and unfriendly. This year there are some new faces and I don't have to wait long to register. I enjoy this challenging course enough to justify the pricey greens fees, plus it keeps my game in check.

This course has a wonderful front 9, and a so-so back 9. There is a wonderful view of Lake Manassas, and a view to Robert Trent Jones, just across the lake. Staff is friendly, although there seems to be a shortage of marshalls and play can be slow.

This course needs some work. The staff is rude and don't show any care for their customers. The course used to be great I have been a VGC member for a year.. The marshalls or (lack of) don't even know what "pace of play" means. It took me 3.5 hours to play the front nine!!! I hope they get some better management that can bring this golf couse to its full potential. The wait and conditions are not worth your time right now.

With elevation changes, doglegs, and challenging greens, this course will test your game. There are high priced homes lining the fairways. I will not play courses that force me to hit the fairways or risk paying to fix some potential damage to high priced homes for an errant tee shot. The better layouts and designs don't come with warnings to gofers about property damage accountability.

Very interesting layout, very fast greens, and tons of elevation changes all throughout the course. The views of Lake Manassas, especially on holes 3 and 4, are impressive. Very much a P.B. Dye design - expect some blind shots, and do whatever you can to keep it in the fairway.

This course is usually in decent shape, not withstanding the divots that tend to accumulate throughout the season. It is mightly difficult, especially around the greens.

The golf course had some character to it for what I think is a fairly young golf course. The greens were definitley a PB Dye design as their were always two if not three tiers in each green. Pretty nice fairways, but the greens were just flat out shaggy. They definitely have potential though. I had a problem with a couple of drives because of blind tee shots, but that comes with the terrritory of getting to know the golf course. Overall I think I would like to play the course again.
