Double Bogey

After a year of renovations, this course is back as bad as it was to begin with. The fairways are totally destroyed, or never recovered. Bare spots, stubble, weeds, and chew-up grass dominate the layout. Greens are okay. It is a sad story for all involved.

Played the newly renovated course on the 1st day open to the public. The layout hasn't changed, but a ton of new bunkers were added, greens and tee boxes redone, and drainage improved. I'm bummed that hole No. 1 doesn't contain the famous M anymore; it was replaced by a bunker The greens look great, but roll very inconsistently; slow on some holes, fast on others. They are difficult to read! Fairways are starting to burnout and weeds are taking over. Course needs more time to grow in; I'll go back next year.

Played Saturday and the course was in good shape. I specifically haven't played here in more than a year because the conditions last year were bad. What a big surprise when I saw how good the course has been maintained. Fairways and greens were all in excellent shape, although the greens putted inconsistently; some fast, some slow. Good practice facilities and good old-school layout.

What a great layout! It is one of the best in the DC area. I had heard that the course was not in good condition but I found the greens to roll very true and the fairways to more than acceptable. I have to think that most people don't realize they have bermuda fairways and that they go dormant in the winter. If you are looking for a test, this is it.

Have to rate it at a 3. Lay out is tremendous (4.9) especially from the back tees. However, the conditoning is in great need of a little TLC (1.5). Greens are in decent shape but fairways are in poor condition. That being said, this course will test your skills. Big, evalated greens that can be quite quick when conditions are good.

Fairways were completely compacted and stripped bare with only weeds coming up. Greens were aerated, so expect some issues there. The buffer area around the greens were very uneven making chipping nearly impossible. I hope they can turn this course around for this year.

The course was beaten up by play and the heat. The fairways had lots of divots and the grass was burnt and uneven around the fringes of the greens. The greens were inconsistent, but not bad on the back nine. Overall, the course is well below it's normal standard.

Dissapointing. The course has its good points but overall the cost is to high for a course that is not properly maintained. We were one of the first groups to go off and found all the Tee boxes littered with broken tees and most were uneven, thin sand bunkers that never seen a rake, fairways that raley gave a good lie, and rough that defines the word, blotchy mostly dirt. Not all was bad though, the greens were ok & fast and the layout is long that tests distance accuracy.

Mature, traditional, lengthy layout with rolling par fours and fives, and two very long uphill par threes. Conditions can be uneven due to the mixed results of efforts to have bermuda fairways which would replicate southern competition venues for the Terrapin golf team and students who don't always take great care of this outstanding layout. A tough but enjoyable test.

What a surprise! I assumed that you had to be affiliated with the university to play there but the course is open to the public. Great layout and friendly staff. The 1st and 2nd holes test both length and accuracy. The par 3s are as good a mix you will find on any course. If you haven't played this course you should make a point to try it.
