This is a wonderful course. Not a long course, but with all the environmental areas, it is tough enough. It's a pretty tight course. We played it on a Monday. I was expecting the course to be tore up from the weekend. Such was not the case. We found the tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, to be in great shape. Bring your A game when playing this course. Out of bounds in not far away on any shot.

Fairways were in their usual condition here which was full of divots, but most were repaired with sand. Some fairways were soggy as other readers have commented, this course does not drain very well. Greens were hard on some holes rolling fast while others were damp and soft rolling somewhat slow. Traps were hard as a rock on some holes but, soft sand was present at other holes. Overall, conditions were ok for this time of year.

This was a great course. Although it was only 6600-yards from the tips, it was challenging based on the force carries, dog legs, and bunkering. I truly enjoyed the course. I would have given the review a birdie, but many of the bunkers were packed and washed out. Fortunately, I did not end up in any of them. Also, I was not too pleased with the staff. I wasn't expecting them to bend over backwards, but I did expect them to be a little more receptive.

I played in a tournament at Timbers at Troy over the weekend and was happy with the overall experience. The fairways were in great condition, the tees were good and the greens were on the slow side with tons of pitch marks. Considering it had rained the night before and the morning of, the course drained fairly well. Timbers is a challenging course with many elevation changes, tight turns and blind shots. Give it a few tries and it is a layout that will grow on you. Priced a little high.

This is an excellent "course management" tract. Lots of twists and turns, and ups and downs, keep one busy trying to figure where to land the ball. One definitely needs a guide or reps on this course to make proper club choices. The only complaint is the greens, which are very bumpy, hairy, and slow. So much so that it ruins a very interesting tract. Lets hope the greens get some mending and attention soon.

Nice layout. There were plenty of holes that required thought before your tee shot. However, the greens were not in best of shape, which was surprising considering how much rain our area has had this Spring.

Drainage on this course has been a problem since day one. They have since made some changes for better drainage and allow carts off the path with exception of four holes. Watch out for the fairway bunkers. Some of them are filled with pebble rocks and some of them look like they are filled with plain fill dirt. For $62 I expect more and I will go elsewhere in the future with no hurry to go back.

Fairways, tee boxes and rough are in good shape espically for the dry conditions. The greens where on the slow side and very bumpy. I'm not sure why those who play the course don't know how to fix a ball marks. I was fixing 3 a green. I think with a little rain and some care on the greens it could be in great shape in a couple weeks.

They are doing a great job of battling the heat! The fairways were lush and the greens were nice. They recently aerated a few of the greens but the ball still rolled nicely. The rough is burned out, but that's to be expected. The course is tight and you might be wise to keep the driver in the bag on the majority of the holes. The cart girl is always there and she is pretty easy on the eyes! Fun course that is affordable compared to a lot of courses in the area.

Played there yesterday and the course was in decent shape. Fairways we're nice and green side rough in good condition. The rough off the fairway was spotty in areas leaving some interesting lies and the greens were a bit shaggy with to many ball marks. Hard to blame the course for those who can't properly repair a ball mark. The layout is tight and the price is reasonable for a non-muni design. Great deal after your round, your first beer costs a penny for each stroke during your round!

Course was in pretty good shape for this time of the year. Greens where running pretty fast, but where kind of bumpy still from aeration. Fairways where in decent shape and the tee boxes where not bad either. Customer service was very good. Starters very helpful, saw the drink cart twice, pro shop was very busy. One thing I always notice here is people do not fix ball marks here. I must of fixed two or three a green and could of fixed 10. Come on guys, hit the green fix the mark.

I played there yesterday and the course was in very nice shape for this time of year. I had not played here in some time and the course hasn't changed much. What has changed is the housing that has been built since I last played this course. Plus, the new road that runs through the course because of it. It intrudes on a course that had an open feel to it the last time I played. I would have rated the course higher except I don't care for the new housing.

Course was in nice shape for October, greens and fairways were green and sand traps were raked and fluffy which is surprising for this time of year. No issues with pro shop staff and cart girl was a real gem. However, from reading the previous ratings on this course, ball marks on the greens that aren't repaired are still an issue. Location right off of I-95 is nice too.

Course was really in pretty good shape for the weather. Greens rolled good and pretty receptive to shots. Fairways where a little wet in a few spots. Tee boxes were in good shape. I think the biggest disappointment was the crappy customer service from the pro shop. Some big dude with black hair was pretty rude to just about everyone in our group. Too many other places to play to deal with RUDE people.

This is a nice course, the fairways were in really good condition and the rough was just punishing enough. The greens were in ok shape but still had pock marks on them where people had not fixed ball marks. The best reason to play this course is the twilight rate $35 all the golf you can play with a cart included. On the downside he course is a somewhat short course, but still a good one.

Decided to try this course on a whim while visiting the Baltimore area this week. Friendly staff, and it was really busy for a weekday afternoon. Not a long course, and well-placed shots are a must. Some really nice par 3s, scenery-wise. Course did seem to have more than the normal amount of divots on the fairways, but they were still very playable. My biggest nit is that no one seemed to know how to fix a ball mark. Some greens were very pocky. But all in all, an enjoyable time.

Not a bad little public course that can get crowded.

Timbers has always been an affordable ($30-$60) bent grass facility, with tricky greens, lots of hazards, and an overall great challenge for good players. However, recently have noticed lots of construction (townhomes) and road (I-95) noise on holes 2-4 and holes 17-18. If you can ignore the noise, which gets a little annoying, it's a great layout. Every hole presents a unique challenge, and the course is usually in excellent condition. Another plus is that they let you walk.

Played the course for the first time recently and considering the dry conditions everywhere the course was in ok shape. More dirt and holes than actual rough when you stray away from the fairway, which is easy on a target course like this. I like the layout, makes you think on every shot. The greens were in pretty good shape. One plus the cart attendent is the hottest I have seen since moving her last year and playing several courses in the area. She is worth a return trip alone!

Course was in good shape for this time of the year. Teeboxes pretty good, greens in good shape. They are really watering the course so it is not dried up with the heat we are having. Fariways are actually a little wet, but in decent shape. Customer service pretty good, pace was real good 4:15.

I enjoyed the layout with its wetlands and water hazards. Staff was un-friendly. Way too expensive for the condition of the course. Play pace was slower than molasses. Not worth the money.

What a difference a year can make in a course. Greens are in the best shape I have ever seen at the course. Very few ball marks, and rolling very nice. Tee boxes and fairways where also in good shape. The crew working the course where also A+++. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Cost was also around $50 dollars which seemed like a bargain for the shape of the course. Pace of play was also very good. Played in 4:15.

I can't believe the Howard county government has something to do with this course. This course is overplayed and the fairways and greens suffer as a result. It is way too pricey for a county course. The staff is not golfer friendly and have terrible attitudes. Trust me... play somewhere else.

Course seems to be going downhill recently. Not much care shown to golfers or to the course by the staff. Greens need consistency and couple of holes are in repair. You need to hit accurate drives for the narrow fairways. Several forced carries over hazards. Biggest flaw is cart path only rule b/c the condition of the course is only average, at the expense of slow play. Management should allow cart scatter or 90 degree rule to firm up fairways and pull tees back in exchange.

This course has a lot of character with tight fairways that are rolling, as well as large and small rolling greens to pose a good challenge to every golfer. Wetland shrubbery even crosses parts of some fairways to add an even bigger challenge for those who have trouble getting their short irons airborne. However, course maintenance is an issue. Greens were really beat up, especially Hole #11 and fairway divots are numerous that it looks like the chickenpocks! Worth visiting though !

Great layout, very close to home.. Those are the good things. Greens where not in good shape, lot's of ball marks and areas that where in bad shape on the greens. What is with the cart path only all the time I have never played there and seen it scatter. I can understand a few holes if they are a little wet, but this really hurts the pace of play. My other complaint is price.. 3 people in the group payed $41 for Howard Res., but my fourth lived in Carroll and paid $56.. Not worth the $$$

Very uneven course. Greens were just average. Two holes are under construction and we were not told about it when making a tee time . They are buliding A ROAD right through the middle of the course. I will not not be going back to this course anytime soon. My advise to my fellow golfers, pick another course.

Timbers at Troy is an excellent golf course. Considering its public and very reasonable. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways are on the narrow side but very nicely kept and quite difficult. This is why I myself love this golf course. If I could I would give it 10 golf balls.
