This course is going private. Doesn't make much sense when other private clubs can't attract members. I really like this course but not enough to be a member. You can still play the course this year for public play. They are starting clubhouse renovations and changing a couple of holes.

Great course. I really like the way it flows through the forest. It's a tight layout but not to bad. I play here a couple of times a year with my brother-in-law and we would probably play more but it's a tad expensive for my wallet. The staff and service is always good.

Played 5 November 2007 for the first time. Course was in great shape but sandy in some spots from maintenance. Staff friendly and helpful. With fall colors, course design, beautiful scenery, and gorgeous homes along some fairways, playing was a delight. Enjoyed the fairways that meandered. Expensive, so it will not be a regular on my list, but definitely worth a return trip. Driving range was not in great shape and is too short to hit metal woods, though range balls are included.

Tight and challenging course that plays longer than it is because of the low lying fairways that always seem to be moist. You have to play to what the course gives you. Aggressive play will get you in trouble quick especially on some of the Par 5s with double doglegs. You can score but you need to be on the right part of the green with the flag. Staff was nice, not the level of the river course but good. They have some nice looking ladies working there as well.

Great conditioned course from tee to green. Service and staff were very nice. the only thing I didn't like was the driving range was too small. The longest club I could hit there was 5 iron

I played South River twice in a week in late March. For the time of year I was very impressed. Although it's a 1.5 hour drive for me and a bit pricey, I enjoyed it both days. Conditions were in great shape for March. Greens were best part. Smooth and fast, fairways were also in great shape. Staff always seems to be courteous. If it wasn't so expensive I would play there a lot more, $83 on weekdays, and $94 on weekends seems to be a bit too much. Recommend to play at least once.

Peter below me here must be high... I play the course a couple of times a year and it's always in good shape. The staff is very friendly and the design is one of the best around the metro area. Yes, the price is high but you get what you pay for.

Played there about 3 weeks ago. Paid $100 for round of golf. Fairways are terrible, but greens are just awful. My friends decide not to play their anymore.

Target golf with not enough options for the golfer. Great conditions, but not my cup of tea.

One of my favorite course designs but was a minor mistake on my part to play on a day after the area recieved so much rain. The course was in good condition but just doesn't drain very well. Made for a very sloppy round. The staff was friendly and the courses conditions were good besides the excess moisture leading to lots of moved balls from standing water. Might wait a couple of days for it to drain some.

I am new to the area and searching for new home course. If your a decent golfer, 10 hcp or below, then this course is for you. South River tests your game with targets that must be hit both from the tee and to the green. The back nine has 3 par 3s and 3 par 5s , a unique trait. Most of the Par 5s must be played as 3 shots with trouble everywhere if you try to reach the green in two. Do yourself a favor and purchase the yardage book it will help. I may have found my new home course!

One of the best conditioned courses I have every played. Even in the heat and thunderstorm ranin of a rained out round the course drained very well. Not the longest course but for the lack of length it makes up in ture shot making holes. Lots of Irons off the tee have to be placed preciesly to leave yourself with a manageable shot to the greens. A bit pricey but the people are nice and a great place for a round. Go out to South River if you really want to test your game!

Course design provides plenty of variety in shot selection. Nice vistas, well manicured fairways and greens, and the clubhouse has a nice proshop.
