Played the course recently and was an overall good experience. The course was challenging with a few blind tee shots. The fairways were perfect as well as the pace of play. The greens were recovering from aeration but still firm and the ball rolled true. Oh, watch out for speed traps on the way back to I-95.

A typical Dye course with plenty of target golf, blind shots requiring accuracy on most holes. Course has made a good comeback vs. its previous situation though. For $38 with coupon it's a fine deal. The greens, fairway and rough were great condition. Make sure you have your "A" game or don't bother!

Course was in great shape, despite the dry summer. Was worth the drive out.

The course is in pretty nice shape. Fairways look and play wonderful and the greens are in pretty good shape as well.

Quite a challenge. Fairways and greens were great. Tee boxes were in very poor shape though. You must be very accurate with each shot. This course gives you very little room for error. We were stuck behind multiple, very slow groups and no Marshall in sight. I think the group is known as the Frogs? We were told that they play here regularly. If they are there on a day you play, try to start on the back nine. Other than the waiting, I enjoyed playing here.

Great course for the price. I've only played during the week. Good for a very quick round.

Great layout. Apparently the course is under new management as of this year. You can tell that the course was in bad shape and is being brought back to good conditions. Greens are much better than other comments on this site. There is new sand in the traps and the fairways are in great shape. Rough could still use some work, but it was still a great course to play.

The previous reviews are correct. The greens are in tough shape. Plus, tack on the fact that they had just aerated three days before I played. They are trying to bring this place back, but it might be a while. The fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. I think the biggest kicker though is that they used to have GPS on the carts and now they don't. There are a lot of tough holes that require some blind shots and they don't even have a yardage book. I might try it again next year.

Played course on September 13 and as previous ratings had stated, the greens were full of crabgrass!!. Fairways were the best part of the course, miss them and you end up in rough that was made up mainly of scrub grass & weeds. Paid $15 dollars for 9 holes. Challenging front nine, many blind shots. If conditions can be improved by the new management, this will be a wonderful course. Was in area on business and happy I did not drive a long distance to play at this course.

Just played 72 holes at The Guantlet over a long weekend holiday (Aug. 20-23, 2005). First reaction: The greens are in awful condition. They are infested with crabgrass and dead spots; the ball does not roll, but rather hits big clumps of weed and bounces from side to side. Also, there is zero consistency to the areas immediately around the greens (fringe & gathering areas); it ranges from fluffy grass to hard dirt to more patchy crab grass. Mngt. appears to be working aggressively to fix the problem, but in the meantime be forewarned.Fairways were in great shape, facilities were good, and staff was friendly. Holes #2-5 are very difficult for a first-time visitor to the course; lots of blind shots with water "somewhere" in play, but tough to figure out just where the water is or how far away.

Paid $25, and it wasn't even worth that. How can I state any clearer - DO NOT PLAY THIS GOAT RANCH!!!! If Pete Dye saw how poor the conditions were here he'd shut it down...personally!!! I seriously couldn't tell the difference between the rough and the tees. The greens looked like someone had bombed them with grenades, and basically the whole course needed a serious trim. I've played some courses in real bad shape before, but this one was one of the worst. Conditions made it unplayable.

This course is wacko because front 9 and back 9 play so totally differently. On Front 9, you use irons and fairway woods on every tee shot to small and tight landing areas (usaully less than 20 yards wide) - no options. If you teeshot is a little long or wide , you will end up in trouble - water, long grass, or fairway bunkers at choke points. Smallish greens and bunkers with no sand. Back 9 opens up more and you get to pull out your driver. Act like John Daily and go for it on short par 4's.

The Gauntlet is way overpriced for this Golf Course, I have played several courses in the area and in other states and it is just an average course. The Guantlet could be a very good course if the greens were in better condition and if the marshalls help keep the pace moving along, that was the most frustrating thing waiting 10-15 minutes to tee off at each hole.

Outstanding design but very tough is the best way to describe the Gauntlet. Blind shots, tight fairways and wavy greens. You got to hit your targets and manage your game well to shoot a good round. Nice practice area and clubhouse and watering hole isn't bad either.

Great course and unique design. If your a fan of Pete Dye its a must play. Only complaint is that it is a tough course and the 20 plus handicapper like myself can have a very bad day if your not hitting the club correctly.Nice views and the clubhouse is great for outings and banquets.
