Played on a nice sunny 70 degree November Sunday and the course was busy. I was surprised the course was in such great condition this late in the season. The layout is good even with the houses around it. Couple of issues. The range has a slight uphill lie. The entire time you warm up or practice it makes you feel like hitting from an uphill lie. The range needs some new balls. On the course some of the bunkers were very thin. For the cost to play here sand should be in the bunkers.

This past holiday weekend the course was in good shape. The layout is interesting with a good variation of holes, lengths and challenge. The service is pretty good with a nice range, chipping area and practice green. Only drawbacks are the price if you pay the rack rate and the greens that even though roll good and pretty fast seem to be difficult to fix ball marks. Instead of an impression of the ball that you can fix the ball always seems to skid and scare the surface. So blemishes are abound.

Played South Riding today and the course was in great shape as usual. The Fairways were in good condition, the greens rolled true and at a quick pace but not to fast. I have played there several times and this was the second time I've played there this year and the only bad aspect of the round was my game. The grass tees were open today and the practice area was in good condition as well. It was a great day of golf at South Riding

Played here a couple weekends ago and the course is in great shape, especially for the amount of rain. The pace of play, which can be an issue, was pretty good. Management finally switched the front and back nines to their originally intended layout, so players pass the clubhouse at the turn. As always, the staff in both the pro shop and grill were really friendly.

Played the course last weekend and it was in great condition. They are now have everyone starting on 10 to reroute everyone by the clubhouse at the turn. Tee to green the conditions were in near perfect condition. The staff is nice and the practice area is better than most. We played in under 4 hours on a holiday weekend which was outstanding.

This course is in beautiful shape and presents a surprising challenge, with difficult to read and hard to hold greens. Some difficult par 5's and some hole designs that you don't see all the time. Great pace of play on my most recent visit, and a GPS-equipped cart. They've let some tall grass grow up in low-lying areas, so there are a few areas marked as water hazards that aren't on the GPS map. Woods bordering many holes, but it's definitely a subdivision course, with visible in-play houses.

The course is holding up well for the dead of summer. The greens are challenging, the rough is reasonable, the GPS is great, and the staff is very nice. If you have a player’s pass or any type of coupon that takes a few dollars off the full price, then this is one of the best overall values in Northern VA.

Good layout in a housing community with plenty of hole diversity. Depending on the tees you play driver is not always the choice so club selection comes into question often. Hybrids and three woods make sense for position. The biggest challenge is the greens with a fair amount of slope and were running pretty quick yesterday. Nice clubhouse and proshop and the practice area is good. Only complain are the mats that all seem to be at an uphill angle. Good for practicing up hill shots I guess.

Overall, the course was in great condition. I always enjoy playing here. They have GPS in the carts. The pace of play was excellent; 4 hours on a Sunday with no waiting. It is a bit pricey. However, if you sign up with their email list, you can get some very good deals.

Wow, I really enjoyed this track. I was worried about some of the reviews I had read, but was very pleasantly surprised! The practice facility is exceptional and the staff was very friendly. The greens are some of the best in the area. Take advantage of some of their on-line discounts and you can play a primo course for a mid-grade price tag. I will definitely be back!

Course was in excellent shape this past weekend from tee to green. This is a challenging layout with higher rough and the greens have an abundant slopes and angles. Some resembling horse saddles with tricky pin placements. The GPS is always nice but don't get suckered into those tucked greens; middle of the greens is the smart play and smartest to keep the big numbers down. The range and practice area is nice and the staff was friendly.

I really enjoy this layout but it doesn't drain the best so if it's rained recently expect some damp spots. The range is really nice with some natural grass tees now. The greens here are always good and the pin placements can be very tough when compared to other courses. Pins tucked back and front leaving very little room for error making birdies almost impossible. The par 3s and par 5s really stand out at this course. Staff is always nice and decent to our group when we play here.

This is a fun, challenging course. The staff is very friendly, range balls are included in the price. $84 on the weekends is a little steep but it includes carts and GPS. Both this course and its sister course, Pleasant Valley, are two excellent courses.

The course is a good challenge for the average golfer. The course was well maintained although it was a little too wet in the morning. I enjoyed the fact that they had GPS and that I was able to play a green course this late in the season. The staff was helpful and friendly, and I will play there again.

Played this course on a very hot Thursday in August. Despite the extremely dry conditions we've had this summer, the course was in good shape. Loved the GPS in the carts. It is a good course to bring a novice on.

Played tournament here Sunday afternoon. Course is in good shape throughout. Course isn't too challenging and the layout is nice. For long hitters, not much more than driver then wedge all day. Practice facilities are nice although the range balls are pretty worn; shots only went about 75 percent. Staff and service was excellent, although they need better looking cart girls.

The new management at South Riding is making a huge difference. Their commitment to excellence shows itself in everything from the course to the Pro Shop. The course is beautiful and the staff is cordial and helpful. Definitely worth your time!

When I played the course was either water logged from overwatering spots of baked to concrete. The harsh summer has really done a number on this course and is not worth the price they're asking. Wait until next year to play here.

Nice course with some interesting holes. The course was in decent conditions but did have a few signs of the heat and lack of rain that I've seen at other courses. Only drawback are the houses all around but don't come into play that much.

Used to be a decent course but too many management changes. Straightforward golf, all the trouble in front of you. Conditions used to be great but have declined. Still a good course but not worth the price.

Great communtiy course, conditions were good and staff was nice. Some tough holes that will make you a better player if you can play here often. Greens were a bit slow but were fast enough for most our of our foursome. Pace was a bit slow but not to much. Overall a nice experience.

Nice course, open, with a few houses. Fairways we're a bit chopped up when I played, but overall, a fun round.

South Riding may have been in great shape when the golfin' amigos played it, but last weekend (7/4/05) it was terrible. Burnt to a crisp - the rough was all dried out, the fairways were nearly bare and the greens looked like they had suffered a bombing run. The only bright spot was the onion rings in the clubhouse. Too much money to play a course in this bad of shape. Herndon's muni is in far better condition. Get a new greenskeeper!!!

5 hours behind 4 monthly weekend hacks that don't know the term "ready golf". Marshall showed up on the 10th hole and asked how it was going and we said, "Slow". He just laughed and said, "It's always slow on weekends." Why give us GPS with pace of play on it if it's not going to be enforced? Front nine is in horrible shape. Back nine a little better.

General Manager & Manager are complete jerks at this course. Respectfully critizied the conditions (tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in poor shape) and they both basically told us that we (I was with a group of 8) are welcome to find another course on our next outting. They didn't care about their customers ....so I figured I would share their thoughts with the people that they don't care about. Too bad. This course has potential but I think the groundskeepers keep resigning the last two years. This course is going to hell.

South Riding is in decent shape, but is slightly overpriced for what you experience. I played twice recently, and had a negative experience with a best ball tournament, but it really wasn't any fault of the staff here. If you can get a discount here then it's worth playing every once in awhile, but the regular rates are not worth it. GPS feature in the carts is a nice bonus, but what good is it when it's cart path only? I bought a Players Pass in conjunction with their sister course over at Pleasant Valley. Probably the only way to play this track. You probably won't be able to get in a quick round here either, as it appears to always be crowded, even on lousy weather days in the afternoon on a cold November Saturday.

Very overrated and highly overpriced. The greens, fairways, and tee boxes are in horrible shape the entire year. Staff is very unfriendly. I WAS a member at this course for two years b/c I live in South Riding. How overrated is this course? I now drive 30 minutes south to attend a competitor course.

I would add this course to my list of fun courses to play that are within a short distance of the beltway. Overall the course played fast (speed of play), and the greens were in great shape. The only drawback comes from building homes to close to areas that come into play off the tee.

This is a great layout. Lots of risk/reward holes. Greens are tremendous. But I will admit ahead of time that I always love Dan Maples courses.
