Excellent course and conditions. Very challenging course and probably one of the most undulated courses I have ever played. Guy in the pro shop was friendly but the starter was not though. Virtually no one out here playing, was able to play a couple of balls. Nice big range with grass. Fairways were in excellent conditions. The rough is not overly punishing but you can lose balls in high grass areas. Greens are not super fast but they have a good pace to them. Played for about $70 and worth it.

Tremendous layout. One of the most difficult yet rewarding fun golf experiences I've ever had. The variety of holes is unlike you'll see at any other course. If you admire course design it should be on your must play list.

Course is one of the toughest you can play with slick greens, tough tee shots and par three's which are lengthy. You've got to play it from the tips to experience the challenge. A must play!

This is a tough course to rate. The design is stellar, a true test of nerve and creativity. Don't believe the whiners about blind shots-there are safe places to hit on every hole. That said, the course is suffering a little, it looks under kept with management struggling a bit. It is in good shape, but wet and soft, not good for the layout. Nice but inattentive staff. The course is too quirky and difficult to be enjoyable on an everyday basis. You must know your distances and choose clubs carefully.

Course has really gotten back into terrific shape after a tough late summer where several greens were lost. The greens are almost perfect; however if it has rained hard recently it takes them a couple of days to get the bunkers back in to good condition.

This is probably generous. Second time I've played there this year. Upon checking in, I happened to ask what kind of condition the course was in. The guy said, "well, we've lost six greens." I thought the greens were slow the first time I played, but I think it turns out that New Kent simply doesn't know how to maintain them. Still like the layout out, and the rough is Open caliber, but I'm giving up on New Kent for this year. Hopefully it'll be back next year.

Even with the blind shots, tee areas were actually fairly generous, but yardage book was way off. Played with two other good golfers and we found distances on some holes of the tees to be off by as much as 50 yards! With the elevation changes and blind shots, it's incredibly difficult to play with that kind of distortion. Good, not great condition. Greens are somewhat slow, which surprised me. Four and a half stars would be a better rating.

This is a beautiful course. If you go for the scenery you will be impressed. The fairways and greens are in excellent condition. However, I gave it a poor rating because if you enjoy golf, this course will spoil golf for you. The majority of the tee shots are blind. The majority of the approach shots are uphill and blind. I think this is an overrated course (because Golf Digest gave it such a high rating). A lot of the holes are gimmicky. Play it for yourself if you do not believe me.

One of the best golfing experiences in the state. RNK is a throwback to Irish courses with large mounds and creative bunkering. It's an experience unlike any other course you will play in Virginia.

Truly a wonderful course and first rate experience. Very difficult course due to problems in estimating distances. Several memorable holes, with situations you rarely experience elsewhere, at least in this part of the country. My most memorable shot is barely getting out of a 15 foot deep greenside bunker. One of my all time favorite courses.

Great course! Play it more than once to know the course and buy a yardage book. Hackers beware, better yet don't play it. Conditions were good but not spectacular, greens were a little slow but still the course is amazing. One of the must plays in the washington DC area.

Links-style course on steroids! As far as creative design and interesting layout, this is the best course you'll find. Like Stonehouse (another Mike Strantz design), it is a tough course, but it has fewer blind shots (a good thing). The greens were in great shape in May '06 (when I played). I was going to list my favorite holes, but they're all great!! Of the 75 Washington area courses I've played, this is in my top 5. This is the must-play course in the Williamsburg area. You have to play this course.

This is the toughest course I have ever played. The layout is incredible and every ball off the fairway is a lost ball. The driving range was not impressive but they have a great chipping green and acceptable putting green. The cost is a little too high for such a remote location.
