I played Rock Harbor yesterday and was looking forward to the new configuration. I was quite disappointed. The new holes seemed forced and tricked up for course. The front 9 was the same as old configuration and the back 9 incorporated 6 new holes and 3 of old back 9. The new back 9 eliminated the signature holes of uphill par 3 and risk/reward number 18. I used to look forward to trip to Rock Harbor, now I can say I have probably made my last trip. Still a nice course, but not as nice.

This course has a beautiful and challenging layout where water comes into play on a number of holes including a neat 135 yd. Par3 island hole. Amenities were very nice and staff seemed to be having a good day as they were extra friendly. Real knock here was the greens were really beat up on practically every hole which made putting even tougher on the fast greens. Also, a good number of blind tee shots which slowed play. I'd like to return in the spring to see if the greens improve.

I liked the course in general, and recognize why others like it. It is well conditioned, reasonably priced and interesting. However, there are some serious problems with the design of this course. The first problem is that five holes are clustered around one series of ponds which makes its confusing and distracting to play. There are also three risk-reward holes where the risk reward equation isn't really very clear. Lots of blind uphill approaches. I received borderline unfriendly service from staff.

Awesome layout and always in great shape and at a great price. It's worth the drive, just wish it was closer. It would be my home course if it were closer!

This course is a great value. I payed $35.00 on the weekend and would have payed $70.00 for the quality of golf. This course would be top 3 if it were in Fairfax County. The greens rolled perfect and the layout is very difficult with water on 11 of the 18 holes. It's worth the drive!

Nice course with an interesting design. Open almost "linksish" with lots of water on the par 3's. Some quirky holes but definitely playable. Great condition and medium greens. Service was just average but a great course for the price.

I moved to Winchester a few months ago and found "The Rock" and made it my new home course. The differing styles in one course is nice. Especially the stretch of holes in the old quary. I have yet to find a better layout, conditions and price in the immidiate area. Plus it's just a few miles from the house.

First time at this course 3/19/06. It was freezing cold and wind blowing 20-30mph. The greens were excellent. Rest of course in pretty good shape for this time of year. Course had quite a few interesting holes, including the island green 7th. There are many up hill approach shots in which you can't see the green. Some of the holes are squeezed in a bit tight and some are a bit gimmicky. But overall pretty fun layout with some nice scenery. $35 winter rate real nice.

Played the course for the first time as a single on a cold and windy day in March 2006. Found the staff knowledgeable and pleasant. Were able to answer all of my questions and provide some insite about a few of the different holes. Course is challenging but fair. Greens and fairways were in good condition considering the growing season has not started. Bunkers could use a little new sand. Very firm. Course was built in an old apple orchard. Interesting to see apple trees scattered throughout.

Course was very lush and well watered. Tee boxes were in perfect shape. Good sand in the traps. Fairways were tight and green. Rough was nice and thick. Green were recently aerated, but still rolled true. They don't use big holes and sand on the greens like other area courses. Impossible to walk with the current layout. I recommend the yardage book. Definitely a challenging course, but a lot of fun to play. I will be back in the near future.

Played the course on September 23, and enjoyed playing it. Course was in good shape considering the drought conditions in the Northern Va area. Greens were in very good condition. Good variety of holes, seemed to be a number of blind uphill shots to the greens. You will want to use a cart for the distance between some holes is long. Well worth the trip out there. Good value for the money.

I just wish Rock Harbor was closer. The best value in a golf experience in the entire Metro DC area. Course is in magnificent shape and is by far the cheapest championship quality course you will find anywhere around. The only negative I can say here is that it was starting to get crowded towards the end of the season, so if you can get on here at an off peak time that will be your best bet. I'd buy a house near this course just for the priviledge of playing it more often. A must play!!!

Course has a lot of potential. It was in good shape for a course that has been open for less than a year. The fairways were a little thin in spots. Hopefully, rain and the grounds crew can get it to grow in a little more. The greens were in fantastic shape. The staff's hospitality also rates big with me. The beverage cart was around every other hole it seemed. Also, the staff at the clubhouse was excellent. Definite must play again.

Alot of great holes the greens played the most consistent ive seen this season. Little far for me but worth it. Some great par 3's. I liked it better than Virginia National. Musket Ridge should be rated the best in my opionion. Great website!
