Great "old" layout that has been in real good shape this year. I've played it about 4 times this spring and summer, and it has been in fine shape; although greens could be a little quicker in my mind. One of the most scenic courses in the MD VA area. For the price, real hard to beat. Play can sometimes be a little slow, especially on weekends, but the layout is good and the scenery is great. Par 3 No. 8 is arguably the "signature" par 3 for the entire DC and Baltimore area.

Course setting is delightfully situated around the Loch Raven reservoir. The deer wander the course and are almost tame. There is also an abundant variety of other wildlife wandering about. The greens and fairways are in good shape and the course provides a reasonable challenge for all levels of golfing skill. The price is very reasonable in the $30 range including cart. In summary the course offers an excellent golf experience both aesthetically and athletically.

Lots of dogleg fairways. Very cheap and very interesting layout. Pace of play is really slow. Very friendly staff.

PROS: This is a super municipal golf course on a great piece of property on the Loch Raven Reservoir. Almost no encroachment of homes to mar the feeling that you are out in the wild. Plenty of wildlife. A great day outdoors even if your game is letting you down. If you are a right-hander that hits a draw off the tee, you'll do well here if you can stay out of the trees - almost all pines which are NOT 85% air. CONS: The course is suffering increasingly from electric cart use on wet days and just simply overuse. This is one of the courses that began charging everyone for an electric cart years ago so now there are fewer walkers and greater course wear. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor by letting you play their course. Prices have climbed regularly over the past 10 years and it's interesting to hear management somehow brag that they haven't raised prices in two decades. While you can still find a price point from back then, you have to play at 6PM on a weekday to get it.

For the flagship in the Baltimore Muni courses, a lot could be done. The up-side is the range facility. Pace of play is ridiculous, rangers seem to be ornamental. General setting and views are very nice, though. Being so out in the middle of nowhere but so close to Towson is a nice change.

It doesn't get much better for a reasonable $36. Beautiful reservoir views, though it doesn't come into play much. Well-kept city course with GPS in carts. Playing here is worth every cent and more.

A gem. A muni course built around a reservoir. Excellent course for the price and classic layout with tall pine trees framing every hole. Cart comes with GPS and is NOT cart path only. It is a joy to play here. You will see wildlife and reservoir views.
