Played this course for the first time this week and was very impressed. The layout is quite a challenge but if you pick the right tees, it is a ton of fun. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the course was in fantastic shape. The free lunch and hole-in-one contest were great bonuses as well. Can't wait to get back there and play again.

You'll love this course or hate it; jarring visuals and those crazy railroad ties. It's a great test, and a course you'd do well to think your way through. If you can get over the blind tee shots (of which there are 4 or 5), you might realize the fairways are quite wide, meaning you should have a shot into the treacherous greens, which are very hilly and very quick. From reading prior reviews, this course has bounced back big time, now charging reasonable prices for great conditions.

Course is in good condition and has nice views of the fall foliage this time of year is nice. I especially enjoyed the green on No. 10 that gives you a great panoramic view of the course and hills. Pro shop is nice and upscale with friendly staff. Didn't care for the civil war looking greens with wood bulkheads around them, but certainly a hilly, challenging course that is worth a play.

After several years of poor playing conditions, PB Dye has finally come back around to be a premiere course in the DC area. Billy Casper now manages the course and made a tremendous turnaround. Greens are more receptive now. Fairways and tee boxes were in very good conditions. They also have spotters on holes 3 and 12, to help speed up play. Excellent! Try the pretzel dog at the turn, yum. The Billy Casper team has made an impact and I will defiantly go back to play it again.

Managed to play nine on Saturday before the thunder storms rolled in. Course was in great condition, seems like the week long rains from a while back really helped the course. In the past, the conditions of the fairways were always a big issue but they were in the best condition I’ve seen in a long time. Only gripe was golfers not replacing the turf in the fairways.

Played Nov 3rd and the course was in terrible condition. Greens had bare spots all over them. Fairways were also in terrible condition. The front nine is routine. The scheme seems to be to narrow the fairways to make a "great design". The back picked up quite a bit. Some very good holes but often contrived.

Dog track at $100 green fee. Municipal courses are in better shape. Fairways are totally gone. Worst conditioned course in the area. And the Golf Staff is unfriendly, unapologetic, and arrogant, especially the pro Scott.

Terrible. Was very excited to play there and ended up disappointed. Forrest Park like conditions at Rum Pointe prices. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were in equally bad shape.

Great layout, but the current conditions are among the worst I've seen anywhere this season. It is almost penalizing to hit the fairways in a lot of spots. This course has incredible potential. With a little bit of grooming this could easily be a top course in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Worst conditioned course I've ever played. I wouldn't expect these kinds of conditions at a muni, let alone a premium daily-fee. Fairways and tees are in terrible shape. Couldn't believe that this place is even open for play, let alone still charging $100 on the weekend. Too bad as it is a good layout; albeit tricked up. I will not be back. There are much better options in the area.

Played yesterday and the course is in horrible shape! They were giving a $20 discount because the drought really took its toll on the course. I really wish courses would tell you this upfront when you make a tee time, I would have played somewhere else. All the tee boxes were being over seeded, so there were no gold/blue/white markers anywhere. Many of the fairways were burnt out. The greens were actually fine, fast and wicked as usual. Personally, I won't come back till next year.

What a disappointing experience at PB Dye! From the moment we paid our $98 per player greens fee, through the end of the round, this course's management underperformed. Pro shop staff was arrogant, disengaged, not friendly. Starter was loony tunes! Was 45 minutes LATE on getting groups out! Actual play was very SLOW at a 5 hour and 30 minute pace. "No Replay" for PB Dye!

Sunday morning had a 10:10 tee time and didn't get off the tee until 10:30. Come to find out they had foursomes 5 minutes apart and the starter said they overbooked. Overbooked? After a 3 hour and 15 minute front nine, we had enough and went in for a rain-check for the back nine. The course was in decent shape and the design is somewhat tricked up and is a fun play. But management doing what they did on a Sunday morning is pathetic.

Great Course! I've been playing this course for the past 5 years and it's worth it every time. Tees, fairways, and esp. the greens are always in great shape. I love how people complain how hard it is and then give it a bad review, like being tricked up ect ect.. This course is known in the area to be very difficult, knowing that why would you play it and then complain about how difficult it is. I think is a great blend of blind tee shots, blind approach shots, straight forward risk/reward holes.

Played on 4/25/07. Fairways still showed signs of aerification but it was in decent condition. Greens are not in peak form yet; there's still sand on them but they're still fast. Bunkers need more sand. And watch out for the second cut of grass...on several holes, I was just a few yards off the fairway and was surprised to see how much the grass grabbed my club. Challenging but enjoyable.

I thought it was a pretty nice course. I know Golf Digest ranked it 26 in its "50 Toughest Courses in America", but I think that might be a stretch. Pretty wide open, but would agree the greens are challenging especially if you get above the hole. And it is almost impossible to make an up-n-down if you miss a green to the short-side of the pin. A little pricey, I thought.

Tough course especially when the wind blows. Greens are difficult, multiple tiers but a challenging course. Conditions are usually good to great. It gets a lot of play so wear and tear is expected.

Tries to be too trickey. Greens and conditions only average for an upscale/expensive course.

Very challenging course for all golfers. As with most Dye courses, many blind tee shots, but fairways are pretty generous. You'll really need to use the aiming markers on most holes. This course is a true test of your short game. Many crowned greens that do not hold most approach shots because greens are undulating. Most likely you'll be putting up to the green or finding someway to chip of flop it, similar to a lot of Pinehurst Num. 2 greens. Greens were very flat, but rolled true. They were also pretty beat up because people don't fix their ball marks. The only way to score on this course is to play it a few times to know where to hit it on the greens. Otherwise, look to be very frustrated.

This was a FUN course! Unbelievalby picturesque! Great mix of long holes and short holes. Fairways, tee boxes, rough were all in great shape. After 13 inches of rain in five days, the course was very green. Bunkers weren't too bad but could use some fresh sand. The green were rolling great but their were close to 100 divots on a few of them. I think this was a mixture of soft greens and jerks that don't bother fixing divots. Overall though, I loved the course and can't wait to come back!

Course was in great shape. Fairways and tee boxes had lots of grass and very well manicured. THE GREENS... Can you say fast and smooth.. OH MY.. This is a very difficult and challenging course. I can understand why people get frustrated. You just have to think through every shot and get a yardage book to help out with the blind spots on the course. For $94 bucks include the yardage book for free. Also had lunch at the clubhouse good food and cold beer A+

Tried too hard to be a challanging up-scale by having too many "tricks".Guess they wanted the average golfer to be humiliated. Instead of "aging" nicely, it is now showing its age. It is an above average course, showing potential problems.

I know courses are have issues with the recent heat. But a high end course changing the prices this course does should be in better shape. Its a fun design but to tricked up and lots of blind shots. The greens are way to fast for average golfers. You hit the green with wedges and irons and the ball bounces off. Its fine to have a tough course but this edges on ridiculous.

This course is in beautiful shape and makes for a fun round but don't expect to score. Even though the lenght isn't very long the greens are very difficult with multiply levels and fast conditions. Also they don't hold shots, making for very difficult chips. If your a scratch golfer expect to shoot plus 5 a 10 handicap expect to shoot plus 15 and so on. If your not at least a 10 or below handicap it might make for a frustrating round. But a very scenic and well maintained course.

I spent more time waiting and watching the group in front of me play then I did actually playing golf myself here. Greens were like sand, and didn't roll true. Fairways were aerated as well, but ok I guess. Too many blind trick shots for me. Too much stress for what should otherwise be an enjoyable experience. I would not play this course again, even if it were free. I can find better use for my time.

I really got tired of saying "I think that is OK....is that OK?" After hitting my tee shots. Way too many blind shots out here. Buddy told me "they have rocks to aim at"...who can hit it straight over a rock with a driver without being incredibly lucky? I need to see the landing area every once in a while...call me crazy. Course was in good shape and had some cool holes but so do a lot of other courses in the area. A bit tricked up for my liking and goofy greens on many holes.

One of the toughest tests you'll find in Maryland. It is true that you'll use every club in your bag. Fast greens but the are very true. If it's windy, which it is alot, it can wreak havoc. Great par 3's, and awesome par 5's. Pin placements can be too difficult at times. The only downside to PB Dye is long rounds, other than that, well worth every penny

If you work for a living and play bogey golf, then you can find other courses that will return better golfing experiences. P.B. Dye courses are not for bogey golfers because you will lose too many balls and will get frustrated by target golf. For single handicap golfers who play golf nearly everyday to keep their games in shape, it may present the right chanllenge. For weekend golfers, visit other courses that are more classic in presentation, and less tricked up visually and on the greens.

Must play! At least three times, the first time just to play, you will leave wondering why PB DYE hated golfers: THE approach shots are as tough as any, with three tiered greens, and numerous hazards protecting the pin. The layout is DIFFERENT, but enjoyable. Greens are in good condition, but very large, and not very fast, The fairways are in great condition, and they have the best Maintance Dept. in town, as seen by the condition of the entire course. Driving range is Grass sometimes, but mats others. Good pace pf play, and after you play it the second time your score will drop dramatically after knowing the do's and dont's of a PB DYE course.

I've played this course 10 times. It is one of the best in the region. Best conditioned greens in the area. Target golf, with ample room for drive. Approach shots are tough due to severly undulating greens. Easy to 3 putt and tough to get up and down from off the greens. This is the toughest public access course in the DC area.

Very challenging course. True target golf. If your irons aren't working, you're gonna get yourself into trouble out here. Hard, fast greens last time I played as well.

One of my favorites in the area, you can't beat a Pete Dye design and this in one of the best, the huge undulating greens and views of the local countryside are outstanding. Great clubhouse with everything you could want.Played it last month and it was in real good shape. The greens were slower than usual due to recent airiation.
