Course was in good shape recently with some patchy fairways, but the greens were pretty good and had very subtle breaks. Course has two parts; a very 1960's traditional short front 9 and a similar back 9 but one with some wild hills and blind up and down holes. It'll hold your interest, but not necessarily over the five hours it will take to play. Yes, this is a hacker haven, and pace of play will be an issue. I like old-school courses, so I'm still giving it a par.

Not impressed with Needwood. It is not in too good of shape right now as compared to other MCG's courses. The course is not really very interesting and it seems to attract a high percentage of high cappers.

Good design that is very open. The grounds crew was out making much needed touch ups, the staff is friendly and they have a good snack bar. Good test of skill.

Lots of rain this spring has this course in great shape. Fairways are excellent. Greens are quick given the amount of rain we've had. Only issue with this course is that they are always backed up. Ive never tee'd off on time in all my years of playing here. Not a very demanding course but it's enjoyable.

The course was rather damp due to recent heavy rains. The fairways are in pretty good shape. The bunkers were pretty hard and some were very wet. All that can be overlooked and should be better in the short term. What's bad are the greens. The county made the mistake of aerating three times this year and when they did it the third time they did it too late. The greens haven't healed over the last few months and are consistently bumpy and sporadic. Hopefully they'll be better in the spring.

I have been playing Needwood for a few years now and I must say that the course is in the best shape I've ever seen! The fairways were as pristine as you might find on some of the upscale courses in the area. The greens were smooth and ran at a nice speed. The bunkers were in good shape. I hope they keep it up!

Ive been playing Needwood for years and the course is in very good condition this season. The greens are a good speed and not so hard that you have to run your ball up onto it. You can get a great deal during the weekdays and is worth taking a vacation day. 20-25$ including cart.

One of the worst courses I've ever played. It's not in good shape. Particularly the tee boxes and sand traps, both are clumps of dirt. Expect a 6-hour round on weekends. There are far too many jean and t-shirt wearing 40 plus handicaps playing this course, and the marshall does absolutely nothing to speed up play. If you're looking to play a municipal in Maryland, I'd go elsewhere. Little Bennett is much better.

For a 75 yr-old with an handicap of 18, which is me, this is a good course to play at any time of the year, except when they aerate. The fairways are kept in good condition as are the greens, the rough is reasonable and the hazards are reasonable too.

Course was in good shape considering the recent heat. It's a little crisp around the edges but greens, fairways were in pretty good shape. The front is open uneventful in both challange and design but the back has a few very nice holes and will challange the better golfer more. It's always busy and as a walk on you might have to wait a while.

The course is quite easy to say the least. It is at times also slightly underkept and does have a few brown pataches in certain places (greens). For the less experienced golfer this is a great course to go for a weekend outing.

A decent muni usually in fair to good condition. I played it last week and every aspect of the course was in good shape except for some greens being a bit bumpy. It took nearly 3 hours to play the front nine. Don't expect a quick round at this very open and friendly course, it's a favorite of those who only play twice a year. Price is decent and it's close to the metro; how many courses can say that anymore.

Course was in great condition. Weekend greens fees are $40 and cart is $14 so you are looking at $54 total to ride. Here is the issue with Needwood. We made the turn around 5pm and their "twilight" golf was just beginning. They allow groups to jump in on #10 causing a painfully slow back 9. I am all for getting as many people out on the course, but folks with tee times should be given first consideration. Twilight rate players should have to start on #1. Bad enough for below avg rating.

I have played this course for 7 years near my job. It has gone from fun average municipal to a course this year with conditions that rival other high end courses I play on the weekends. Kudos to the staff for such a great job in taking care of my weekday course this year. Its close to my job, fun relatively easy track with more challange and character on the back nine. Only real issue now are the foursomes of 30 plus handicaps making for some long rounds for those behind, but nobody's perfect!

Had the opportunity to play a weeday round and tried Needwood. Was impressed with the very good conditions especially on a course that is notorious for lots of beginners. Every area of the course was in good shape. They were re doing some of the bunkers and adding lots of fluffy new white sand instead of the old quarter inch of dirt sand. Course is short Par70 with open front and a bit of fun more challanging varitey on the back nine. Nice long closing Par 4 over water.

For a short course it is in pretty good shape. Pretty straight forward front nine and a little challange on the back. Good location if you don`t have the time to travel. Only bad thing is round was very long as there were lots of beginners on the course. Took us 5 hrs to finish

Course close to the redline metro but with the good location means more people. Lots of beginners so be prepared for a long round and dodge errant short. The course is always in decent condition with a open front nine and a bit tighter back. If your a good player you should score well. Greens were a bit furry and bumpy but it is early in the season, all the other aspects of the course are maintained pretty well. The staff could use some use some friendly training.

I know it's the winter but shouldn't courses that stay open during the winter do some work to the course if there going to charge customers to play? Greens were really shaggy and very bumpy. Sand traps were so dead pan hard you were more likely to break your club or hand instead of getting the ball to the green. I know winter rules and all that stuff but I was just very disapointed in a course that is in pretty good shape the rest of the year to be in such poor shape in the winter.

A shorter course but was in decent shape. Not the most eye appealing course but the couple of over look holes on the back nine note worthy. Green speed was medium and bunkers were a bit thin on sand. Overall condition was pretty good. I like to course because it is in a good location, but like most courses not to far out they are always busy on the weekends. Don't expect a fast round, lots of walkers and lots of hackers but a good course for the beginner.

Decent Municipal but fairly short. Not much trouble anywhere on the course but always in fair shape. The price is relatively cheap for close to the beltway but weekend play is very slow and the starters are always crotchey old retires with nothing but grief.
