I may have rated this better if I had a better day here. Course has some awkward holes and some shots that if you miss are too penalizing, even for a 9 like myself. Staff was nice, clubhouse OK, and course just OK. A place I might play once a year, but that's about all.

I took advantage of the last day of Musket Ridge's $35 aeration special last week. Nice clubhouse and practice range. Course has a solid variety of holes that nicely incorporates the elevation changes of the terrain. Last few holes are a bit easy. Greens rolled true with little indication of recent aeration. I will return if the price was right.

Played on Wednesday and liked the course, for the most part. The best part is the setting; there are spectacular vistas on several of the holes. Course conditions were OK. The fairways and rough were good, but many of the fairway bunkers had several inches of standing water from the recent rain. I would have thought they'd drain better given the hilly property. Greens were a little slow and are not as challenging as some of the upscale competitors like Worthington Manor. It's pricey, too.

Fairways were in great shape. The greens were aerated two weeks prior so I figured they'd be in prime shape, but they still had lots of sandy pebbles that gave for some untrue putts. The layout of the course is very challenging with a bunker in play on nearly every shot. I really liked how no two holes were alike. Overall, this is an excellent course and one that I would like to play when there weren't any aeration marks to worry about. Definitely worth a try if you're in the Frederick area.

Played Sun 8/26 for aeration rates, which is about the only time of year I can justify cost of this course without finding coupons someplace, usually about $100. The course is very well designed and immaculate. I always enjoy playing here. Obviously for now the greens are a mess with aeration, but I do not dock an overall review for something like that which everyone has to do. Wait a week or two if greens bother you, or play now for $48 after 12pm on weekends! Bonus great elevation views.

Played this course for the 1st time on 04/21/07 and was very disappointed. The facility was aerated 2 weeks prior so I figured the greens would be in great shape - wrong. It appears that they have put way to much sand on the greens and in some spots there is sand with no grass growing through. If this wasn't the case I would think more highly of the course. It is well laid out. Just wanted to give a heads up to those thinking of playing it in the near future.

Greens were a bit slow but I really enjoyed the round, specially with $35 twilight rate. Overall, course was in good conditions and still the best scenic course west of Baltimore.

What a great course, the lay out, the scenery, the tee box, the fairway and the greens are great. Don't miss any oppurtunity to play this great golf course. In my opinion this course is better than Bulle Rock.

Was a little beat up when I played but it gets a lot of play. Good course, tough thick rough; hopefully they cut it now by now.

One of the best courses in the area, greens in great shape, tough but fair.

Played over the weekend with friends from DC. Great design and views. But the rough is a killer for a mid capper like me. The rough should punish but not embarse you and rub your face in the ground. Painful, pur pain. If you play the course, keep it in the fairway. Greens were nice but hard to read.

I love this course and the design. Great views and tons of challange. The rough is thicker than it looks and makes you guess if you stray away from the fairway. The greens this last week were still a bit bumpy and sandy form areation. My favorite course out of all the Frederick MD area courses.

Nice up-scale course that is challanging with good conditions.

My favorite course in the area by far. Always in good shape, tough test of game but fair. Greens were a bit bumpy and sandy but its early in the season. Should be back to top notch form in about a week. The views, clubhouse and staff have always been great to me.

Very nice course -- fairways are pretty close together, but all in all, a challenging and scenic course. Greens did roll rather fast!

Wonderful conditions. Many varying and challenging holes. Very scenic, maybe best in Washington area. Greens were a bit inconsistent and at variance from some postings here, they were fast. Tee times were 9 minutes a part, but somehow the pace was still slow. Well worth a play. Novemeber rate was $69, which is considerably more reasonable than many upscale Northern Va. courses. Took just over an hour to get there from Fairfax, worth the ride an the play.

It had been a couple of years since I played Musket Ridge. Me and some friends recently played this past weekend and the course is maturing nicley. If you haven't played you will find a bit tougher conditions than in the past with a thicker grown in rough that does penilize. The greens are hard but roll at a medium and manageble pace and the surrounding views and design is outstanding. Tough dog legs, risk reward and a varitey of approaches to play a course that demands the best of your game.

Musket Ridge: Overall course was in good shape but would rate the greens a B because of slowness. Fairways B+, the rough on this course is the highest I have ever played, there is about 10 feet of secondary rough and then just stuff you can barely move the ball from. Service is a B- to a C on this course, when I pay alot of $$$ to play I do not expect snobby service. For the money this course really only rates a low B or C in my book for the money

Played this course several times and enjoy the layout but the course condition and pace of play gets worse everytime we play there. They maximize tee times so count on a slow 5+ hour round on a weekend. Considering the price they could do better.

Played on a Wednesday in April. Very, very scenic location - specacular views. Service was absolutely first rate - everyone was friendly, helpful and made for an enjoyable experience. Course was reasonably straightforward. I'm still a high handicapper, but the course was very fair. The rough will catch up to you over time, however, as will some of the ravines. Greens were still in early-season condition - just a bit sandy, although putting reasonably true (would probably have been better in a few weeks). Fairways were in good but not great condition. We are fortunate to have courses of this quality in this metro area, so I'm not complaining! As you might expect from a weekday morning in April, pace was outstanding - my twosome had to wait just a bit on the foursome in front of us but they moved at a good pace and we had nobody within 2 holes behind us, so we could play at our pace and savor the course. Bottom line - I'll return.

Well, a mid-January round when I had the whole course to myself was, simply put, golf heaven! Low 40's temps, and not a soul on the course, except for me!! Conditions for mid-January were unbelievable, and the layout and views were outstanding. Best part about this round was it was free! It doesn't get any better then Musket Ridge!

Very scenic course, with many challenging holes, it was a bit windy the day we played which made many of the tight fairways more challenging. The greens were very fast and service was excellent. We experienced a 15 minute tee time delay due to a back up and slow play on the couse. Other than that, very well maintained and worth the drive.

I would rank this one above the rest. Its a tremendous mountain setting, course design and layout are spectacular, greens fair, fairways in good condition, great sand, and fair but very challenging especially on approach shot and when the wind picks up. Ranking the MD courses in area:
Musket Ridge
PB Dye
Whiskey Creek
Blue Mash
MD National
Worthington Manor

The course does not allow for mistakes. The rough was fair, but get outside that as the average golfer will a number of times and tehre is little forgiveness. Recent rain had prevented recent groundskeeping leaving the tees shaggy and the greens bumpy. It's worth the ride, but I wouldn't get too high of hopes up before you start.

Outstanding condition, great service, absolutely a must play. This course definitely deserves it ranking in the top 5 in the state of Maryland.
