Conditions were better last time I played, so I'm bumping up to an eagle. Great design in secluded environment.

I traveled down after snow storm as the nearest course open and what a great surprise. Had a wonderful day, a must play course.

I just love this place. If there was a golf course I could play for the rest of my life Mattaponi Springs would be it. The layout if first class and the surrounding area is so serene. Every hole is all by itself and you rarely see more than one hole at a time. The service if first rate and the restaurant has a great menu. Lots of variety in the layout and the greens will challenge your ability to putt and chip like no other.

Probably closer to 3.5 flags than 4 here. Hard to justify full $89 rate on weekends because conditions are good, but not exemplary or even great. Rough is a bit sparse, there are some dead spots in fairways. Overall it is in good 4-star shape, but not 5-star/$89 shape. Just my own pet peeve. Beyond that the layout and multi-tiered greens are great and well worth the drive. Mind the pin placement for the day; it is crucial to be aiming at the correct tier!

Made a trip down to Mattaponi Springs in mid May. First, tee boxes were kind of patchy but overall course was in very good condition. Greens are much undulated and it was cart path only for the first 7 holes. Rough was a bit patchy in some places but overall it was a good experience. Tough course though.

Tough layout with difficult to read greens, but they roll true. Subtle breaks even on flat putts. Rough is in rough shape with dead spots. Fairways are high quality. This is a challenging course in an out-of-the-way location. It wasn’t very busy and they have a friendly staff.

Played here for the first time on 3-1-08. Greens are in excellent condition but they they are very tough. They have lots of undulations, multiple tiers, and very quick. Fairways are dormant but in very good shape. This is a tough course and will challenge you but it is also a very beautiful course with a great layout. The course won the first time around but that just made us decide to play another 18 to try to get even. Can't wait to try it again later this this year.

This is the most pleasant course that I have played this year. The layout is challenging with spectacular condition and no homes on the course. It is remote and provides a wonderful golf experience.

This continues to be the best course in the area. The greens are fast but true and the overall course is a challenge.

This is a nice enough course but the rating is much too high. 4 flags at best normally. Fairways are "OK", a lot more burnt drought than most other upscale courses I have to rate it against. For $89 I expect near pristine conditions, not "OK". Ditto with rough. They are planting new Bermuda to repair, but no carts off path for foreseeable future as a result. Track itself very fun and creative. A long way for $89 though for OK. Hopeful the fixes will put back in great shape for 2008.

I'm a life-long D.C. Metro area 8-hcp. golfer who enjoys good golf but not slow golf. Mattaponi is a 75 mile drive from D.C. but well worth it. The course is perfectly manicured. There are no homes on the course and you feel like you are playing a southern course a la NC, SC and GA. Pines and dunes provide a challenge for shots that fly astray. The fairways are zoysia grass and boy are they perfect. I was super impressed with the 2 and 3 tiered greens. And we played in 4 hours! Kudos.

My new favorite course, greens are great, layout challenging enough and each hole was fun.

One of the best courses in the area if not the best. rolling fairways with elevation changes in a parkland setting without any development (houses). Tour caliber conditions, fairways like carpet, greens quick and true, bunkers impecable. Service was also outstanding. Nothing bad can be said about this course except it is a trek but well worth the drive. Play it you won't be dissapointed.

This is the best course in the area...shape condition difficult challenging...cost is a bit high given the location and the other courses in the area.

Once you find the course you are in for a real treat. After playing a few of the courses along I-95 between Virginia and DC this one is my new favorite. The layout is outstanding with lush fairways, elevation changes, multi-tiered greens. You must be able to hit spots especailly on the greens because the wrong placement can lead to three putts fast. The clubhouse is 1st class and is a great spot for an outing. If you haven't been to Mattaponi Springs you should soon.

I really enjoyed this course. First class range, hitting off grass and a large putting green with a trap. Quite a bit of elevation change which made for some proper judgement when selecting clubs for approach shots. The greens have alot of contour so placement is important to avoid putting up or down two or more tiers. Very good use of natural terrain for fairways with well maintained fairways and greens, could have used more yardage info as not all sprinkler heads were marked.
