It’s not a country club, but for the money, you can't beat it. They recently paved the cart paths and I heard that they are getting a new fleet of carts soon. The course features some nice holes with well maintained greens. Unfortunately, the tee boxes are inconsistent and power lines cross a couple holes. You'll either love or hate the 90 degree dogleg holes. Overall, I would recommend Maple Run to a golfer looking to play a solid course without going broke.

What other reviewers haven't pointed out is some of the crazy greens on the front side: Holes 1, 7 and 8 have some serious mounds that can easily lead to a three-putt. They tend to be fast, too. I've played this course a few times, find it picturesque, reasonably free of other golfers and a relative bargain.

Maple Run is like golfing two seperate nine holes. The front is more open with undulating greens and a few scenic views. The back nine winds its way through forest with a power line that bisects two fairways (of course I hit one of them for a 100 yard drive). A stream comes into play on the back nine, but I found the back nine to be a bit "distracting". If you only have time to play nine holes, go for the front nine, it has some picturesque holes (1, 4, 5, and 6). The first hole, a par 5, is the hardest on the course. Hole 6 offers extensive views towards Thurmont (or Emmitsburg). For the price I paid (with coupon- $18 total), it was worth the round. For the regular price, I'd be tempted to play elsewhere. Staff was extremely friendly!

Played the course twice this week and have played it the past 3 seasons. It's cheap and usually uncrowded during the week. I have fun here, but the course conditions seem to be sliding backwards. The tee boxes are a wreck with uneven, hard-packed dirt, even on the par 3s. There are no cart, just gravel and dirt paths with the same punishing ruts year after year. Bunkers are mixed with some a bit sketchy. On the plus side, the greens are slick, roll true and some are sloped and difficult. The greens aren't receptive though and several have drop offs to the side or back. There's usually plenty of room off the tee, as the rough isn't long or penal. The layout is OK, a few cool holes, some boring ones, and a few that leave you scratching your head (90 degree dogleg on number 3, e.g.). On balance, I still like the course but am worried about its direction.

Offbeat course. Played as a single on a Tuesday afternoon. On the plus side, it is inexpensive and wasn't crowded - was never pushed from behind while coasting behind the twosome ahead of me (I wasn't in a rush and still managed to play 18 in a little over 2 1/2 hours, even playing 2 balls sometimes). The greens were a test - undulating, firm and didn't hold approach shots at all. They putted true although they looked a little funky (maybe it's early in the season). Fairways were good, although there wasn't much of a difference from the rough, which wasn't too long. A few tee boxes were ROCK hard, and the bumpy gravel cart paths will shake your fillings loose. If you're willing to put up with something that's a bit rough around the edges, Maple Run gives you a very good value, but don't come here expecting "country club for a day" :-))

Off the beaten path but a fun staight-forward course worth a trip. The front nine is open and greens were in decent shape. Only problem was that some of the tee boxes were in bad shape leaving you to hunt for a good place to tee up your ball. The back nine tightens up with a stretch of holes through a very densly wooded are. The most challanging hole is a serious dog-leg Par 5 where your drive has to be in just the right spot. Decent course and good prices only $39 on the weekend with cart.
