For the shoulder season not in bad shape. All courses are still a bit soggy. It seems the bunkers had some fresh sand and the criss-cross cut of the greens were a nice change. Greens slightly bumpy but given the young age of the 2008 a decent all around golf experience this past weekend.

For the dead of winter the course was average. The greens were bumpy and hadn't been rolled and the twelve different kinds of grass in the greens were at different lengths. The cold made for some tough tees to penetrate the permafrost but a day on the course in the middle of winter, especially during this cold winter is better than no golf at all. For $30 which includes cart you can't expect to much. The design is fun and playable for new and old golfer alike.

Played here yesterday and it's in fair condition. There are a couple of greens with issues and a bit hard around the edges. I enjoy playing here with my friends because it's not to difficult and price is OK.

Overall Laytonsville is currently in pretty good shape. The greens are rolling very well and at a semi-quick pace. The fairways are OK but a bit thin just like all the country courses. The green side traps however were inconsistent. Some would have a good amount of sand and some thin. It's seems thin sand traps are becoming a norm at courses this season for some reason. Maybe it's the economy. Pace was OK 4:45 on a mid-Sunday morning isn't bad.

Par might be a stretch currently at Laytonsville Golf Course but for the price it's not bad. The early spring leaves the course a bit sloppy last weekend when I played. Greens were ok at best a and a few of the bunkers were being re-worked. It was a weekend round jammed with players and there was NO water on the course and NO beverage cart. Plus the ball cleaners were bone dry. How much money does a course miss out on with no beverage cart?

Laytonsville is not a particularly challenging course, but it is on a beautiful piece of land and it has been in nice shape whenever I’ve played there. The greens are firm and true and the tee boxes are well maintained. Pace of play has been pretty good given its popularity.

The course wasn't overly saturated after the recent hard rains. Some fairway spots were soggy. I only had one instance of a ball landing in standing water. Fairways were in good shape otherwise. Greens were in good shape. Sand traps were semi-hard but playable. This course isn't in my normal rotation but I like it. It's a short course that isn’t very demanding. A good early season get back into the swing of things course.

Short course in comparison with others that is coming off the final leg of aeration. Despite the yardage, the greens were very fast. You'll get a good read from the practice greens before you head out as they are dead on with the course. Great staff and amenities here as well. Sand traps were in good shape and reasonably rock free. Majority of the holes though have you stay with your cart on the path as the fairways are roped off, so play cart path golf if you can. Lots of traps too.

It's early in the year but the course was in decent shape today. The greens were pretty quick actually. Seems the bunkers had some new sand. Only complaints was the very thin and spotty rough which should grow in soon and the greens have many different types of grass making slope difficult to read.

In decent shape for the winter. The greens were very bumpy and a few of the bunkers were very compacted. I know you can't cut the greens that much but you can roll them to make them smoother. Overall the muni I like to play, straight forward and you can score well if you hit it straight.

For a municipal with a slightly uninspired design the course was in good shape yesterday. The greens were the best I've seen in a long time. The back nine is a bit more challenging and if you can hit the balls straight you should score well.

Not the most challenging layout, but well bunkered, with really fast greens even though it had rained the night before. Not very long either, we played the tips at 6400. Played Saturday AM for $59 with cart. Pretty good value, and empty; probably since it was cold.

I know the summer has been rough and I guess management is doing there best, but the hard lies and bumpy greens are what I found at Laytonsville yesterday. The course was in OK shape but the hard fairways are not very receptive to wedge shots. The greens were a bit slow and very bumpy. Looks like they airified a few weeks back, maybe better in a couple of weeks. Its a decent track but I probably won't be back for a few weeks considering the hard conditions.

Played on the 4th of July and found that the conditions were great. The greens were smooth and ran at a good pace. The fairways were nice and lush. The bunkers had plenty of sand. The cart girl was amazing! The pace was pretty slow, but I believe this was because it was a holiday and all sorts of people that only play once a year were out and about. Great municipal course!

Conditions yesterday we're average at best. The greens are in good shape but a bit slow and the bunkers had a decent amount of sand. The fairways and rough we're a bit spotty and anything off the fairway will get a bounce or two off the hard ground that needs a few good rains. The staff is always the best of all the MCG courses and the cart girl was outstanding!

One of my favorite munis but the recent aeration and sanding of the greens made my round something that didn't really resemble golf. It seems the aeration machine, is one of the older models with "big holes". Plus the amount of sand was more than I've ever seen on any other course. No putt was close to holding it's line, tough to gauge speed both on putts and chips. You might want to wait a week to two before teeing it up here. The rest of the course was greening in nicely. Not a bad price.

Greens were just aerated around 9/27. Condition was still pretty good even considering the sandy putts. Should heal within a couple of weeks. Course was even busy in the "iffy" weather on Saturday. Not an overwhelming design but one of the bottle conditioned munis in Montgomery County.

The course is recovering from the heat issues previous raters spoke off. All the greens were in good shape and the issues in the fairways are green and full again. The staff has done an excellent job and I'm sure the recent rains and cooler weather has helped. The course is one of the better muni's in Montgomery County and a fun play. Not very long and the back nine is more challenging. The Par 3s are no push over from the tips but with some shorter Par 4s and Par 5s there are birdies to be had if you can make good approach shots.

The heat and humidity are starting to take it's toll on my home course. Crab grass apparent on a few greens and fairways are starting to brown. I hope we get some rain and a cold front soon to cool things off. I know the staff there is working hard to try and maintain but Mother Nature is getting the best of my favorite muni lately.

Straightforward municipal that's always in good shape. Staff is friendly and approachable. Reachable in two Par 5's shorter Par 4s and middle to wedge Par 3s, a great course to boast your confidence.

My favorite confidence boost. The course was in the best conditions I've seen in the past couple of years. Greens, fairways and bunkers were all in nice shape. The front nine has many scoring chances with a few shorter Par 4s and reachable in two par 5s. Greens were in good shape but rolling just a bit slow.

Tees were moved a bit forward and greens a bit bumpy and furry but I guess thats expected for this time of year. Course was in decent condition and the staff as always is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend that if you're going to open the course in the winter please rake the bunkers. I'm a hacker that cry's when I see hard pan bunkers.

As a frequent reader of this website and player at Laytonsville, I was surprised at the "shooting". After reading your posting of the event, it sounds as if the description was worst then the actual event. I have never heard of any such problem in 23 years of playing there. Hopefully your article doesn't keep players from playing a decent golf course. The course is plenty challenging off the back tees and is usually in great shape for a place that averages 300 rounds on a summer weekend day.

This is an average track to warm up for the season or simply scratch that golf itch in the off
season. Had a fun time w/ some buddies, until the 13th green. Some kids in the house off the
13th shot at us. Maybe it was a BB, paint ball, I dont really know... but it was high velocity and
coulda caused some major damage.

Have fun, but be on the lookout when approaching the 13th green (My buddy nicknamed it
"Fallujah Corner").

Played it in a recent tourney. The course was much dryer than usual, making for extra roll and hard lies. Greens were in decent shape, traps were a bit thin on sand but overall not to bad. The on course service with a beverage cart attendent was bad. Only saw the cart once the entire round. And on a 90 plus degree day made for some bad few finishing holes because of not having anything to eat or drink coming down the home stretch.

Decent track for a muncipal and conditions are above par compared to most munis I've played in the past. Layout isn't anything special and most hole are straight forward. Even as a single walk on Sunday I expected a bit more out of the pace. Extremly slow play with lots of hackers. Don't get me wrong, everyone deserves to play but the multiple mulligans and 15 shots a hole must stop. Not a marshall in sight and that was with a 10 a.m. tee off. If you go on the weekend expect 5 hours plus.

On a raw March Saturday the course was in ok shape with bumpy greens. But its more due to time of year than anything else. Price is ok and has a pretty good practice range. Being new to the area it is close to home.

I know I shouldn't expect perfect conditions this time of year but if your going to charge spring time prices, $54 with cart, then the course should be in better shape. Greens were extremely bumpy and furry, all traps were hard and compacted. Allot of forward tees. On the good side for a 45 degree day we moved at a good pace. No course should springtime prices until the course is in springtime condition, of which Laytonsville was far from on this day.

Nice open course and leaves plenty of room for me to screw up and still find my ball. Only problem is that the course seems to have all players that don't know when to pick up there ball and move on. If you don't mind a long round then this is the place for you. But conditions were good and price is right for us "public" golfers.

This county course was in good condtion. The design is pretty straight forward. Greens were really nice for what seems to be a course that gets lots of play. Only complaint was the pace, no marshal anywhere and with limited sunshie fro an afternoon round it doesn't do well for trying to get in the entire 18. Good price also.

Played the course Columbus Day. First of all the course was in great condition when compared to the past. Even the greens were very true and quick. But as usual the pace of play was horrible. My round was six hours, given it was a beautiful day it wasn't to bad but any chance at keeping a rythem just didn't happen. Another good point was the price $27 dollars for a walker on a holiday is a great deal in this area.

Just had my first round of the year here recently. The course has come a long way since the re-design has finished. One par 3 on the front is still closed but they have an extra hole on the back to make up for it. The course was in good shape from tee to green. For a warm, wide open muni the conditions we're good. If you're a low handicapper you should have a nice score to post. The short holes, couple of reachable Par 5's, and only a couple of holes have hazards that come into play off the tee.

Friendly Muni on the outskirts of the suburbs. Busy on weekends, so don't expect a 4 hour round. It's the place where many hackers go because the track is short and open, so expect to see re-teeing by many. They should have a better ranger/marshal to enforce pace but I guess they are happy to just see the money come in. Other than that the cousre was in decent shape all around and the revamped holes make it a bit more interesting. The course is easier to get on, unlike Redgate.
