For first timers, you must have the yardage book to guide you around the course. I didn't for the first 9 and only had the guide pole on some holes to shoot for since hills, moguls, and grass make for a number of blind shots on this "flat" course. You must play cautiously and pick your shots on a number of holes. Quite a challenge. Course was in excellent shape but ran into a lot of unhurried grounds keepers with water hoses. A real experience, not for the novice.

What an excellent course. Top notch conditions from tee to green. You just don't find design this unique; and if you haven't made a trip to Hunters Oak then you need to as soon as you can. Don't expect to shoot your average. The course is very tough, you have to play conservative if you haven't played here before. Lots of bunkers and a few in prime driving locations. The split green of 9 and 18 is unique. If you're in the market of a membership then you need to check this course out.

I could see that some might not like this course, with the numerous blind tee shots or the way that the architect had to create mounding features on the flat land. I, however, was quite impressed with the course. It allowed for many shot options and required real thought to score well. The undulating fairways and greens provided a fine level of excitement. The layout made shot angles and placement key, which made the course a lot of fun. I would like to play here again.

WOW! True links in ever aspect. Tons of high grass among aiming sticks and stretches of fairways. Conditions are first rate and the staff and clubhouse are country club caliber. If your a hacker you might be in for a long day at Hunters Oak but if your a seasoned golfer you must make a tee time.

Hunter's Oak offers a terrific venue for players seeking a wee bit of St Andews here in Maryland. True to any links style course, Hunter's Oak boasts an incredible assortment of bunkers; including 34 sod, 68 sand and a variety of berms, swales and gulleys that seem never ending. Water comes into play on 11 of 18 holes. The greens rolled true and were in very good condition. Tee boxes and fairways are well maintained! Challenging yet fair, Hunter's Oak is beautiful. Worth a round or 2, or 3.
