Whiskey Creek Golf Club

Whiskey Creek Golf Club  On the edge of urban sprawl up the I-270 corridor towards Frederick lies the distinct new flavor of the Whiskey Creek Golf Club. A course developed with Ernie Els as design consultant, Whiskey Creek is a shot of medicine any golf junkie would love to indulge.

Unlike other courses, Whiskey Creek presents each hole with individual flair. There is very little overlap in rough giving the feel that your group is the only one on the course at times.

Whiskey Creek Golf ClubThe presentation at each tee frames the hole, exuding the difference and  character each holds.  The flavor of  the courses design embodies both the natural scenery of the underlying an approaching land blended perfectly with meticulous flow of the  courses fairways.

Amigos favorite Hole: The number 12 par 4 is the hole we Amigos liked best. As you can see in the picture to the right, the view from the tee shot is "amazing" to say the least. This dogleg left starts with a tee shot that is key to scoring good on this hole.

Whiskey Creek Golf ClubThe ideal shot clears the ridge on the right hand side of the fairway, allowing for a make-able second shot to a green nestled atop a small hill.

If your tee shot goes left, the flanking rough blinds your second shot to the green.  Right before the small rise to the green is a dense area of rough that crosses the end of the holes approaching fairway. Making for an ideal magnet for those brave enough to attempt the blind second shot from the left.  As is the norm for  more than a couple of holes at Whiskey Creek, course management is key.

Review Date: 05/17/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In good shape. Varying of makers should rotate more to reduce wear.

Fairways:
Beautiful design, wide and long makes playability for all levels but the uneven lies make for tricky second shots. Drains wonderfully after a heavy down pour mid round the rest of the fairways were in impeccable shape considering the amount of rain we had just received.

Rough:
Thick, evenly cut but also playable. Making for shots that that if carried from the fairway still likely to escape with penalty of the carryover.

Traps:
Nice soft and fluffy making for escapes that were at times, kind.

Greens:
"A plus", best quality of the course with pin placement in reachable but extremely challenging areas.

Amenities:
With a decor flavor of rustic western charm the clubhouse oozes with class. A full service bar and grill make any 19th hole activities enjoyabale and a deck/patio encompasses the clubhouse overlooking the 1st and 18th fairways for a perfect 19th hole.

Staff Services:
All areas of staff service were superb. From bag drop to the friendly face at the bar after our round each member of the Whiskey Creek staff made our round a delite.

Pace of Play:
There was little wait once on the course. Original tee time was at 11:00 am but did not tee off till 11:40.

Overall Average: 4.6, Birdie Course
Outstanding Course, must play recommendation
