Westwinds Golf Club
Sometimes we get
spoiled in the Mid-Atlantic area. We have such a wide assortment of
courses to choose from it's hard to make a decision on which course
you might want to try next.
You may want to try that new
high dollar course your doctor was raving about, or maybe the
one your buddy mentioned at poker night last week. But if you take our advice you
might want to try out the WestWinds Golf Club.
This tight hilly layout with will test even the best of shot makers,
not to mention the fast and impeccably maintained greens.
The WestWinds course has the the character and bite
to satisfy even the most discriminating of golf junkies.

Amigos
favorite Hole:
With a multitude of differing holes and enough doglegs to
make you think you wandered into a kennel, it was hard for us to pick
just one hole as our favorite. But in the end we choose the number 2,
par 4.
This hole is both astatically pleasing to the eye and
a great test
of course management. From the tee it's necessary to have a good
gauge of your club distances for the day. Take one club to many
you'll end up in a hazard, take one club to little and you'll have no
shot to the green.
The best play for the start
of this tricky hole is to play it safe with a medium to high iron to
the fairway landing area. From there you're left with a middle iron
shot
to the green. The more daring might choose to attempt cutting the corner
with a fairway wood, but be warned there is little room for error
with a
water hazard guarding the left side of the fairway after the
corner.

On a partially overcast day
with Autumn in the air we had just barely survived the first hole to
find this blind tee shot for hole number two.
From the tee our solo Amigo
had a decent iron shot that just barley cut the corner. Next was a
testy and partially obstructed shot to the green. Luckily with a
good strike he made it through the one impeding
tree unscathed in close proximity to the green.
After surveying the area
around the green our Amigo finally found his ball in the rough
and had a routine chip left to save par. But with a mediocre chip
attempt the he was left with a 25-footer to save par. It seemed as
though the first bogey of the day was soon to come, but with a good
read and just the right speed the long putt was made to save the
par.

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)
Tees:
All sets of tees were in decent shape and nicely maintained. Some tees were moved forward.
Fairways:
Most of the fairways on the front nine are in good shape but a couple on the back did need some work. I am sure the staff is aware of the issues and have them planned for rework.
Rough:
One cut off rough and discernable from the fairway. All areas away from the fairway were well kept.
Traps:
All the traps were in good position making the course challenge you in different ways based on your approach to course management.
Greens:
Excellent greens, the highlight of the course.! Slight to medium undulation with very quick speed. The course will play different every week based on pin placement.
Amenities:
Restaurant with bar on premises and fully stocked pro shop to meet all your needs. Driving range is available and large chipping and putting green is right off the 1st and 10th tee.
Staff Services:
The entire staff was cordial and attentive.
Pace of Play:
The pace of our round was average to slow. No ranger was out minding pace during our round.
Overall Average:
4, Birdie Course
Good Course, worth a play
