Swan Point Yacht & Country Club

Swan Point Golf  Out in southern Maryland and just 50 miles from DC is the sprawling marsh flanked fairways of the Swan Point Yacht & Country Club

Most of the links of this flawless layout are intertwined and designed in precise harmony with the beautiful natural setting of marshland and Potomac River. The Swan Point Yacht & Country Club provides a unique golf experience that is unlike any other in suburban Maryland. This course exudes the coastal golf experience and is within a short drive from the capital beltway.

From long open fairways to sprawling marshland that intersects some holes, this course demands the best of a golfers course management.  If your lucky enough to stay dry, tactically placed bunkers are scattered throughout to capture any wayward shot.

The key to taming this "beast by the bay" is good ball striking with precision placement.

With greens that vary greatly in size and depth attention to the pin location is critical. Once you get on the green you will find putting speed between medium and fast with variable break all around.

Amigos favorite Hole: With several holes vying for Amigos favorite, the one we liked best was the Par 5, 520-yard # 4. Classic risk/reward, this monster has a large water hazard that runs the entire fairway.

Swan Point GolfThe second shot is the risk/reward choice, either go for the large island green in two with a good fairway wood, or lay up with a medium iron shot for a less risky approach.  This hole is a short Par 5 but the second shot to the island green requires "exact precision".

Both Amigos decided to play safe and lay up with a short iron just shy of the approach to the island green.  One Amigo came away with a bogie and the other, lets just say enjoyed more time in the water than he should have.

Review Date: 07/06/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In good shape with staggering levels for a real change in level of play. Some markers were different from the scorecard so be sure to check the tee length and not rely to heavily on the score card yardage. The maintenance and feel was in great shape.

Fairways:
In good shape all around, maintained well but slightly brown around the edges.

Rough:
A rough that definitely penalizes. Thick and grabby and positioned perfectly around the green and bunkers for challenging play.

Traps:
Trap perfection! Lots of variability in bunker placement and differ greatly in size and depth.

Greens:
Nicely maintained with extreme varying of shapes and size. From larger undulating greens to narrow flat ones, the design of each green is very unique from hole to hole.

Ample clubhouse has all the extras you need. Large putting green and included range balls is the perfect setup for those who need to warm up before their round.

Staff Services:
Everyone was extremely nice and gracious. The starter was very informative.

Pace of Play:
There was no wait for our tee time and little to no wait between holes. Entire round was played in a little over 4 hours.
