Stonewall Golf Club

West of the beltway out I-66 as suburban DC just starts to fade lies the picturesque manicured links of the Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville Virginia.

This Tom Jackson masterpiece exudes every luxury and amenity all high end courses inspire to incorporate but few match the level of pampering and indulgence Stonewall offers. From the huge clubhouse and Brass Cannon Restaurant not to mention 18 holes of the finest golf this side of Augusta, Stonewall will exceed all even the most discriminating golfers expectations.

Amigos Favorite Hole: There is no one hole that we liked best and to choose just one hole would be a disservice to the other 17.

Every hole presents a challenge for both novice and experienced golfers alike.   In addition, the course layout and surrounding environment of lake Manassas is picturesque and awe-inspiring.

During the closing ceremony of the media day event, Mr. Jackson made a point of explaining that his goal was "not" to reconstruct the land and create a manufactured golf environment but to use the land and surroundings of Lake Manassas to mold an elegant course that would take advantage of the “Lay of the land.”

He has certainly accomplished his vision of a challenging and beautiful course and Western Golf Properties has accomplished their vision of a fantastic golf experience.

Mr. Jackson has truly tapped a sense that exudes a unique golfing experience like nothing else in the area.

Review Date: 05/07/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In perfect shape. Lots of room for variable tee settings which allows for proper maintenance.

Fairways:
Beautiful in form, best fairways of any course reviewed this year.

Rough:
Rough is impeccably maintained and thick. The need for keeping the ball in the fairway is crucial at the Stonewall Golf Club.

Traps:
Plentiful in number and variable in shape. Unlike some courses the texture and depth of sand is ideal for good escapes.

Greens:
In beautiful shape. Pin placement was challenging yet attainable but the speed of theses greens will keep even the best putters guessing.

Amenities:
If you enjoy spoiled indulgence, and who wouldn't, the Stonewall golf club sets the bar far above the norm.

Staff Services:
Extremely courteous staff with exceptional service. A plus in every facet.

Pace of Play:
Our review was conducted during a media day outing, so it wasn't a real judge of pace of play. Were trying to request another visit to judge a normal weekend pace of play. But I am sure the same meticulous detail is observed here as in the other areas.

Overall Average: 4.8, Birdie Course
Outstanding Course, must play recommendation

We would like to thank Mr. Robert Ford the Director of Golf/General Manager and Kristen Hammel the Tournament and Event Coordinator at Stonewall Golf Club for inviting the GolfinAmigos to their media day event.
