Redgate Golf Course
Located in Rockville Maryland with it’s rolling fairways,
strategically positioned traps and distinctive water hazards that poses a
challenge to both experienced and beginning golfers alike is the RedGate Municipal
Golf Course. With a slope of
131 the peeks and valleys of this course make it unique and in the eye of
the GolfinAmigos the "Gem” of Montgomery county
public courses.
Even in
February the greens were in perfect shape and the condition of the
fairways throughout the course is a fitting model for other courses
to follow.
With a walk able yet hilly
terrain some holes may be difficult for those golfers who tend to
toss back one to two on the weekends, but if a cart rider you are or
the golfer who appreciates a good walking “workout” then Redgate is ideal.
Signature Hole:
The signature hole is number 17. This par
3 requires nearly a 200-yard tee shot to reach the green. And its very
deceiving cause the green is uphill and looks closer than it really appears.
Amigos favorite
Hole: The hole we liked the best was a par 5, number 16. This hole will
challenge any golfer. You tee off on a ridge and your goal is to lie up on the
next ridge instead of it going long and drifting down the hill making for a
very difficult lie.
If you can hit a good tee shot,
your second iron shot needs to be long enough to get to a third ridge,
then your a sand wedge away from the green.
Both
Amigos that day were not lucky enough to hit the long iron shot this
time around and ended up needing a long wedge shot at the bottom of the
valley in front of a strategically placed water hazard that I am sure
collects a many of balls from those errand second iron shots.

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)
Tees:
Well kept but there were not markers to distinguish between men’s ladies ect. But this is normal for most courses during winter play.
Fairways:
“Outstanding shape”, especially for winter golf. A rolling, hilly terrain that is challenging at times and is great practice for hitting from uphill and down hill lies.
Rough:
Challenging yet forgiving to hit from. Discernible from the fairway and kept precisely manicured.
Traps:
Traps were well maintained but hard. But hard traps are expected for winter golf.
Greens:
Excellent greens for a municipal course and in exceptional shape for the wintertime. A bit fast and very challenging.
Amenities:
On average, course has large snack bar area but Pro Shop could use a facelift. It's cramped and with not much room for displays.
Staff Services:
The staff service was very friendly and welcoming. From the Snack Bar operator to the starter everyone was friendly and service was prompt with little wait.
Pace of Play:
The timing between groups was just right with no wait on any hole. Even though the chilly temperature might have been a factor for less golfers that day, which always improves pace of play, the sun was shining and the hard core hackers were aplenty for this February Saturday.
Overall Average:
3.6, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
We would like to thank PGA Professional Kieron Mooney of Redgate Golf Course for welcoming us out to conduct the review.
