Poolesville Golf Course

Poolesville Golf Course  Over the river and through the woods, right before you get to grandma’s house in Poolesville Maryland is the long stretched layout of the Poolesville Golf Course. A 20-minute drive from the capital beltway, the Poolesville Golf Course offers some of the most generous and unforgiving long golf play in the area.

The 262-acre course is one of the longest public courses in the County with a mix of long Par 4s, Par 5s and just a couple of mixed in Par 3s to make for an interesting round.

Signature Hole: The Number 2 hole is this courses signature, which is a 605-yard, par 5, featuring two sizeable fairway bunkers waiting for any errant tee shot. The green is bunkered on the sides, which adds a definite challenge to any chip attempt.

Poolesville Golf CourseAmigos favorite Hole: The hole we liked the best was a par 3, number 8. The tee shot is over a medium sized pond onto a small lading area of fairway then on to the green.

The Amigos luck was split this day with one amigo teeing off into the drink and the other Amigo nailing his tee shot within a birdie distance putt away from the hole. Unlike the other holes this day the one lone lucky amigo was able to hit the birdie shot which made this day of other longer less forgiving holes even more memorable.

Review Date: 02/23/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
Smartly manicured and in very good shape. Long tee boxes with 3 of the 4 tee levels.

Fairways:
Above average in every fashion, well kept and maintained with obvious care. The fairways a wide open and very long great for the long ball hitter and those with accuracy problems.

Rough:
Rough was non-discernable from the fairways, most “rough areas” had little or no transition in length feel or texture when progressing from the fairway into the rough.

Traps:
Traps were adequately maintained and well positioned in proportion to tee shots and green approaches.

Greens:
In fine shape and neatly maintained in all aspects of green flow and divot repair. Pin placement was very challenging with a few of the greens that hand many contours to challenge even the most skilled putters.

Amenities:
The Clubhouse is moderately equipped but what gives this course amenities and edge is the local watering hole just adjacent to the clubhouse and across from the 18th green. A mix of locals belly up to the bar with a full service grill that is on par or superior to any in the area.

Staff Services:
The staffs service especially the bar and grill was extremely accommodating.

Pace of Play:
There was slight wait between each hole on this sunny but blustery Saturday in February.

Overall Average: 3.8, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
