Pinecrest Golf Course
With
the tentacles of suburban spread slowly eating up all the land for
townhouse developments the Pinecrest golf course is an oasis inside the
beltway to work on your game.
With its narrow fairways and blind tee shots on certain holes, strategic
shoots are necessary for this short course. Like most courses nestled
inside densely populated areas, the lack of room between holes and rough
is at a premium. Town homes line some of the holes and a couple of
roads lie parallel to some fairways.
With a couple of straight
forward easy Par 3's this course should be a good round for the decent
golfer but with the last Par 5 that has a dog leg that bends to at least
90 degrees the encroaching fairways of this executive nine hole course
will test any level of play.
Amigos
favorite Hole: The
Par 5, number 8 was the hole we liked best at the Pinecrest golf course.
This hard dogleg right is a classic risk/reward example. The long hitter
can be in perfect position to reach the green in two with a good tee
shot, but for those with any waywardness in their shot a small pond is
on the right and dense brush to the left and in between is a very narrow
landing area.
Both Amigos played safe and
laid up to a shorter much wider fairway area.
From there our second shot
was a short iron to the landing area prior to crossing the pond. Both
third shots were just off the green and two bogeys were the best we
could do on this tricky Par 5.

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)
Tees:
In ok shape a bit long and worn in places.
Fairways:
In decent shape, nicely trimmed and discernable from the rough.
Rough:
Dense thick and not in the best shape. Needs added work.
Traps:
In good position and relatively good all around except for the edges which were over grown.
Greens:
Best aspect of the course in great shape as far as feel and to hit to. Speed is a bit slower so you can get your aim and really hit it with out worrying about going to far. Would be a 5 if there were more variability in the design. Basic flat and round greens.
Amenities:
A nice clubhouse, not to large but has full service grill for after round munchies.
Staff Services:
A nice friendly staff.
Pace of Play:
A very slow round. The group ahead of us seemed to have never played a round. After the first 4 holes they started to pick up the pace but this course even on weekends seems to allow everyone. Is one of the benefits of county owned courses but not if you want to keep good pace which is essential for a good rhythm for your game.
Overall Average:
2.8, Bogey Course
