Nemacolin Woodlands Links

Fairway View at the Links Golf Course Review  With spectacular views of the Laurel Highlands and a style that embodies traditional Scottish Links courses, The Links at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa is a great course for both the experienced and beginning golfer alike.

The fairways intertwine perfectly with the rolling gentle highland hills and the every present array of hardwoods that embody the essence of a mythical forest is the perfect natural setting for golfing splendor.

Tee View at the Links Golf Course ReviewThe original of two outstanding golf courses at the resort, this course has large open fairways, a forgivable rough and moderately quick greens with subtle breaks. The variation and friendly style of the course makes it perfect for ample scoring opportunities.

But on the other hand the course plays close to 7,000 yards from the tips and has a pair of par fives that can challenge even the longest of hitters. The course is a long way from a total pushover.

Amigos favorite Hole: We liked the number 15 441-yard Par 4 best at the Links course. This number one handicapped hole is a steady "bend" from tee to green.

The most guarded and narrower of fairways on the course, this hole requires a very accurate tee shot of less than 220 yards. Dense woods guard both sides of the fairway protecting against any errant slice or hook.

Hill Top View at the Links Golf Course ReviewIf your able to hit a good tee shot, your left with a second of approximately 200 yards to reach the green. Be careful though, the slightly elevated green is well fortified with three bunkers and backs to a lake.

On an overcast and drizzly Sunday morning both Amigos hit good tee shots and were left with demanding second shots to the green.

The second shot for one Amigo was to lofty of an expectation and was sent far right and out of bounds in the woods. One Amigo was lucky enough to get to the green in three and able to hit a long putt to save par.

Review Date: 09/14/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In decent shape but worn in some areas. There is variable spacing of the tee boxes for different playing ability.

Fairways:
Nice, flat and in good shape, classic east coast feel and playability.

Rough:
A fairly wide open approach with a rough that is manageable and not to punishing. Great for the beginning golfer and easier on those still fighting the natural slice.

Traps:
In good shape, nicely maintained and in good position both for the fairway bunkers and ones protecting the greens.

Greens:
Greens are the best aspect of the course. In terrific shape and moderately fast. Subtle breaks throughout with slight slope.

Amenities:
Clubhouse is dual use in-conjunction of other course at the resort. Great driving range, two chipping greens and large putting green are available from warming up. Full service golf academy has many lesson plans, including swing analysis that can help the beginner to the most experienced golfer. GPS is on every cart giving that extra advantage by taking the guess work out of distance to the green.

Staff Services:
From Bag drop until the completion of the round, all of the staff members at Nemacolin Woodlands resort clubhouse were outstanding. Attention to detail is given in every area.

Pace of Play:
Even on a moderately wet day there were still the hard core hackers out. The pace was just above average for a round.

Overall Average: 4.23, Birdie Course
Good Course, worth a play
