Marlton Golf Club

Marlton Golf MD Not far from the Beltway off Route 4 in Upper Marlboro is the narrow tree lined fairways of the Marlton Golf Club.

This shorter course built in 1998 is made for the precise ball striker with tee shot placement being key.

With a wide variety in layout; from an island Par 3 to several doglegs to long Par 5's this course makes for a challenging round that does not disappoint.

Bryan Huus, the new manger of the Marlton Club is taking measures to upgrade the course in many areas. He talked about more frequent aeration and tee box work. The more frequent aeration should help with the hard feel of the fairways in some areas. We feel that with the good greens Bryan has a good base to turn this course into a great golfing venue for us amateur weekend hackers.

Marlton Golf MDAmigos favorite Hole: Our favorite was the Par 3, 150-yard number 17. This prototypical "island green" is a high iron shot to a medium sized undulating green flanked right front by a large sand trap as the only obstacle besides the water for any wayward shots.

On this day one Amigo was went bunker and the other just short and in the water. The Amigo that was in the bunker settled for a bogie after a decent out and the other had to drop and settle for double bogie after his tee shot went for a swim.

Review Date: 07/21/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In decent shape. Need to rotate the tee markers more to reduce wear of the hitting area. Chopped up tee boxes really effect the golfers ability to start a hole on a good tee shot.

Fairways:
In fair shape, some spots are a bit burned and could use more attention.

Rough:
The ground is hard and rocky anywhere that's not in the fairway. With the narrow fairways and thick brush off most of the fairways don't expect any kind bounces. Our suggestion is to bring extra balls.

Traps:
Trap were good to hit from with deep sand that makes for a good base for escapes. Some edges of the traps need work.

Greens:
Best aspect of the course! In great shape, easy to keep iron shots on and vary in size and depth. From subtle dips to challenging ridges the greens do not disappoint with a speed that is medium to fast.

Amenities:
Good clubhouse and grill with all the extras. Full range, putting and chipping green are available.

Staff Services:
Everyone was extremely nice and gracious, the starter was very informative.

Pace of Play:
There was no wait for our tee time and minimum wait between holes.

Overall Average: 3.6, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
