Little Bennett Golf Club Review Date: 03/16/2002

Little Bennett MD  Just off I-270 in Clarksburg Maryland, right before you cross the Montgomery county line lies the picturesque rolling hills of the Little Bennett golf course.

Part of the Montgomery County parks department this course was built in 1994 on the grounds of an old dairy farm. Just off the number one tee box stands two silos from an old farm left to mark a remembrance of the lands original purpose.

Today the two silos guard against any and all wayward tee shots marking the beginning of a trek that exudes the best of golf in the Washington DC area.

Little Bennett MDAmigos favorite Hole: The back nine number 14 was the hole we liked the best. This par 5 winds hard to the left from the tee. A forced short tee leaves you with 250 yards remaining to the hole. A narrow fairway runs left to the green drops off to the left with and oblong crest that drops another 10 feet to a narrow rough area that flanks the out of bounds.

Even with just 75 yards remain to the hole on your third shot your still playing blind because the green is still well guarded from sight.

Both Amigos got lucky and played safe for a change and were lying three just short of the green. Two decent chip got both close enough to the hole the putt to save par.

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:

The tee boxes were in great shape. Other than some of them having blind shots to the fairway. A good draw shot could come in handy for this course.

Fairways:
The recent aeration deterred in our assessment of the greens but design and shape is one of a kind with many levels of variation.

Rough:
Very challenging, with the hills and dense brush not far from many of the fairways, penalty strokes can come in bunches if your not careful.

Traps:
Traps were nicely maintained. The fine sand makes for easier escapes.

Greens:
In Par shape, on the day of the amigos visit they had just been aerated. But given the benefit of the doubt under normal conditions they should be in superb shape along with all the other aspects of the course.

Amenities:
A large clubhouse with a full service bar and grill adjacent. Goes above and beyond what most public courses in the area have to offer.

Staff Services:
All of the staff was very cooperative and helpful.

Pace of Play:
On this overcast day there was very little wait between groups. And from conversations with the regulars the main reason they like the course is because there is always little wait.

Overall Average: 4.2, Birdie Course
Good Course, worth a play
