Jefferson District

Fourth Green at the Jefferson District Golf Course  In the midst of the highway hum and hiss of the beltway in Falls Church Virginia lies the nestled home of the Jefferson District golf course. Just inside the inner loop off route 50 is a 9 hole course that can satisfy even the most distinct golfers pallet.

Part of the Fairfax County Park Authority this executive course was built in the mid 1970's.  With no hole longer than 400 yards the course can be rewarding if steady iron shots are the strong point of your game.

With a layout that entices even the "most avid cart rider" to brave the elements of a walking round, this course embodies a feel that breaths simplicity yet deceptive challenge all in the same instance.

View at the Jefferson District Golf CourseAmigos favorite Hole: The Par 4, number 4 was the hole we liked best at the Jefferson District course. This hard dog leg left from the tee is flanked by a long water hazard on the left hand side and on the right the fairway is lined with a row of mature trees.

The initial tee approach is directed to a landing area about 200 yards away with a 100 to 110 yard chip directly to the left onto the green.  For those of strong drives approaching the green from the tee is tempting but highly unlikely; unless your first name is Tiger.

The foursome this day all went south and in the water with their second approach shot, except the lone Amigo who hit a nice iron approach onto the green and was able to two putt to Par the hole.

Review Date: 05/04/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
The tee boxes were in fair shape.

Fairways:
In good shape. Nicely maintained with varying depths

Rough:
Rough is discernable yet manageable.

Traps:
Strategically placed but due to recent heavy rains some looked more like water hazards than traps. I was informed that they would be fixed soon.

Greens:
Greens were in perfect shape! The best aspect of the course. Kept in impeccable shape, a definite "A" plus.

Amenities:
A nice clubhouse with grill and large dinning area. A driving range would be a nice addition.

Staff Services:
Gracious staff, friendly and approachable for all service needs.

Pace of Play:
On a beautiful May day there was no wait and little wait in between pairings from tee to tee. A very popular course that is extremely easy on the legs and knees to walk.

Overall Average: 3.7, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
