Hope Valley Golf Course
Just
a few miles east of Frederick Maryland near Mt. Airy is the
new challenging executive course of Hope Valley. This 18 hole Par
63 course designed by Brain Ault makes great use of the natural
hilly terrain to challenge even the best of golfers game.
With it's many Par 3 holes and shorter Par
4 's this course is a must for anyone working on their iron game. This
course is excellent for practice hitting shorter irons and chipping
around the green and only a couple of holes require teeing off with the
driver.
On a majority of holes the fairway
is relatively narrow with very little true "rough" , making
the
necessary accurate shots a must. Most tee boxes are staggered
behind the fairway with different and distinct natural obstacles to hit
over including
creeks, declines in elevation and thickets of brush.
Signature Hole:
The signature hole is the
Par 4 number 17 .
This hole has a strategically placed bunker in the fairway nearly two
hundred yards away. This perfectly placed bunker will devour any tee
shot that drifts even a few degrees to the right. The fairway is a good
100 yards away for the tee box and is perched above an overlook with a
great view of the fairway below.
Amigos favorite Hole:
The back nine
number 14 was the hole we liked the best because each shot has to
cross a hazard throughout the hole. Your tee shot is to a landing
area only 150 yards, crossing a very large area of brush. Your
second shot from the fairway landing area descends down another hill and
over another hazard of brush to finally reach a narrow and well guarded green. This
day both Amigos were lucky enough to hit both landings and were
within a close chip to make par.
Review Date:

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)
Tees:
Tee boxes were in nice shape. No temporary tees and well maintained.
Fairways:
In superb shape. Meticulously groomed and manicured.
Rough:
Very little of it. Due to the course layout and terrain there is little room for errant shots.
Traps:
Traps were well groomed and placed strategically throughout the course.
Greens:
In decent shape. Some greens had worn and patches that looked to have problems growing in. These patches were not however enough of an issue to impede play.
Amenities:
An adequate sized clubhouse.
Staff Services:
All of the staff was friendly and helpful.
Pace of Play:
On this breezy and cold Saturday there were very few golfers on the course and no wait at any hole.
Overall Average:
3.8, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
We would like to thank Mr. Nick Vance the director of golf at Hope Valley for letting us visit and review the course.
