Goose Creek Golf Club
Beyond
Tyson's Corner in the middle of ever
expanding suburbia is the compact and battle tested 98 acre layout of the
Goose Creek Golf Club.
With small greens and demanding blind tee shots this
course can and will "Cook Your Goose" if your game isn't up
to Par.
Once a
private club only accessible to privileged members, the course is
now open to the general public standing ready to test your game
against one of the most unique designs in our area.
With a
variety of long Par 3's, narrow fairways of the Par 4's and the open
generous fairways of on the Par 5's, Goose Creek offers a style all
its own for you to enjoy.
Amigos
favorite Hole:
The hole we liked best was the number 9, 190-yard
par 3. Setting the bar for the rest of the Par 3's on the course,
accuracy off the tee is a must.
Your
tee shot approach is made for longer iron hitters to a small
elevated . Trouble lurks on all fronts with a small stream
intersecting the fairway and thick
brush along both sides. Any wayward stroke is guaranteed to result in a penalty stroke.
On a Sunday where all Amigos
in the review group were struggling with their game, only one of the
three were able to reach the green from the tee.
The other two Amigos were less
fortunate and forced to face the music. Or in this case, the "cackle
of a goose" masquerading as the
dreaded penalty stroke.
As
we all walked off the green frustrated with the poor shape of our
game, it was clear that our course management
skills did not meet the demands of goose creek.
Final hole
scores as we made the turn; two double bogeys and one bogey. We hope
you fair better during your trip to Goose Creek, it's worth a visit.

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)
Tees:
The Par 4's and 5's have many blind tee shots. With over 443 yards difference between the white and blue tees, there is noticeable difference in playing strategy based on your choice of tees. The tee box's were in decent shape considering all the recent rains but did need an additional trim.
Fairways:
All the fairways were in sufficient shape. Due to the location of the course it does have some drainage issues. But after the considerable amount of rain like we have had this season most courses are playing differently. Once dried out the course should be much more forgiving and approachable.
Rough:
Long thick and punishing rough. If you don't keep your ball in the fairway it's difficult to hit the greens in regulation. Due to all the rain and the inability to mow frequently we believe the course will play friendly once the course dries out and rough is trimmed down some.
Traps:
Traps are variably placed and in moderate shape.
Greens:
Greens were average and rolling at a slower pace. The greens are approachable but very small. Your iron work and shots to the green must be on Par for good scoring.
Amenities:
Expansive clubhouse with large putting and chipping green. The grill area is great for those after round 19th hole activities. Only negative was no driving range to warm up on before your round.
Staff Services:
Everyone was very nice an attentive. The help at the bag drop and assistance after your round is a nice extra.
Pace of Play:
On a busy Sunday the Ranger was only spotted only once during our round. Ahead of our group was two separate twosomes with the first walking and the second twosome riding in separate carts. We had no idea of why the starter would let two separate twosomes out on a busy Sunday. This lead to a bit of a back up between groups.
Overall Average:
3.2, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play
