East Potomac Blue Golf Course

The East Potomac Blue course is a refuge for the golfing masses that inhabit Washington DC. Run by the National Park authority, this complex encompasses a large island, locally known as "Hanes Point", adjacent to the 14th street bridge with the Potomac river on all sides. With no hills, this flat very walk-able course is very popular among the city dwelling golfing community.

The wide open fairways and straight forward greens make the East Potomac Blue course ideal for opportunistic scoring. But the thick rough and nature preserves that pepper some sides of the fairways pose enough challenge for levels of golfing ability.

Amigos favorite Hole: The number 12 par 5 is the hole we Amigos liked best at the East Potomac Blue course. This 499 yard Par 5 is a slight flat dog leg right flanked on both sides by two large willow trees.

Your tee shot needs to be placed just left straight and beyond the large willow tree that on the right side of the fairway. With a good tee shot you should be able to reach the green in two with a good fairway wood. The green is slightly elevated but large and flat. Both sides of the green are flanked with rough, but no real immediate danger is present.

Review Date: 05/25/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In grade A shape. With only 3 weeks of play on the course so far you couldn't even tell anyone had used the tees. The variable spacing among the tee boxes should allow for reduced wear.

Fairways:
Nice to hit from and well kept.

Rough:
For what rough there is, it does vary. Very large older trees sporadically flank the fairways along with nature preserves that are out of bounds.

Traps:
Well raked but not to deep. Some were hard due to the recent rains.

Greens:
Very large, relatively flat and in good shape. Due to the layout of the course the varying depth of the greens is not a concern at this course.

Amenities:
Older stately clubhouse with adjacent grill. The grill area is very popular even for non golfers and is known by the locals as the best place for a home cooked burger.

Staff Services:
Everyone was nice and congenial during our visit.

Pace of Play:
There was little wait on any hole either from groups behind or in front. Which was very surprising due to the large number of walking groups on the course.

Overall Average: 3.8, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play

We would like to thank Mr. Mike Byrd the General Manger and Head Professional at the East Potomac Golf Complex for allowing the GolfinAmigos to visit and review the blue course.
