Eagle's Landing Golf Course

Scenic, demanding and commanding are the perfect three adjectives to describe the layout and design of Eagle's Landing Golf Course in Berlin Maryland.

Nestled across the Sinepuxent Bay from Ocean City, Eagle's Landing is a true shot makers delight offering a delectable test to all whom dare make a tee time. The tranquil mash land is harmoniously intertwined throughout the championship layout creating an abundance of  picturesque seaside views and strategic play.

With some challenging yet approachable warm up holes to begin the front nine the course slowly lulls you into a calm state. Once your reach the number seven hole you soon realize you had better be warmed up and have control issues corrected to post any resemblance of a decent score.

The course demands your best with a few greens surrounded by water and several forced carries making accurate iron and wedge shots mandatory.

As the round progresses the marshland continues to encroach ever so slightly upon the fairways and the round climaxes with the number 18 signature hole, "Beast of the East" requiring the most difficult tee and approach shots anywhere on the course.

A yardage guide is provided before your round so pay strict attention to proper club selection. Some water and marsh may look out of reach from the tee, but its really just the beast releasing a slight "giggle" as you pull out that driver and swing away. Knowing what to hit off the tee and managing your game efficiently is a necessity to "tame the beast" and the rest of the course at Eagle's Landing.

Amigos favorite Hole: With an assortment of favorites to choose from the number-7 528-yard Par 5 gets the nod as ours. This hole starts with a carry over marshland to a fairway that doglegs hard left from the tee. For those with a flair for the dramatic cutting the corner is an option but for most the hole is best played with a three shot approach.

Once safe and in the fairway the most logical second shot is a lay-up wedge or iron to the end of the fairway. As the fairway ends the island green makes a demanding target perched among the reeds and marshland.

The scenic and demanding layout at Eagle's Landing is well worth a round. Make sure the "Beast of the East" is one your courses of choice during your next visit to Ocean City. Contact our friends at www.oceancitygolf.com for the best prices and help with your tee time.

Review Date: 05/08/2004

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
At over 7000 yard from the tips Eagle's Landing will challenge even the most accomplished golfer but the other three sets of tees make the course approachable for all skill levels.

Fairways:
Lush fairways that are well kept and manicured nicely. Pay attention to the course guide and keep in mind of encroaching hazards that cut much closer to the fairway that then seem from afar.

Rough:
Two cuts of rough and a few forced carries tell you why the course is nicknamed, "The Beast of the East".

Traps:
All the bunkers were well placed and in very good shape. The ample amount of sand in each bunker we landed in was good to have when working around the greens.

Greens:
The greens were in very good shape running at medium pace. They could be cut just a tad shorter but given the other challenging aspects of the course more manageable greens isn't a bad idea.

Amenities:
Clubhouse is fully stocked with necessities and the Caddy Shack Cafe offers a wide range of items including a fully stocked bar. Large pitching and practice green but no range is available to warm up on.

Staff Services:
Everyone on the Eagle's Landing staff was attentive and friendly. The starter was well versed an helpful with with some local knowledge for our first visit to the course.

Pace of Play:
During our windy round there was no real rush on pace or wait anywhere on the course. We completed our round just over four and hours.

Overall Average: 4.65, Birdie Course
Outstanding Course, must play recommendation
