Beachwood Golf Club

Beachwood Fairway View  Right off the Grand Strand in North Myrtle Beach is the stately tree lined fairways of the "Beachwood Golf Club".

Huge hardwood trees flank both sides of the fairway on nearly every hole like row upon rows of guards placed to bear witness to more rounds of golf each year than any of us will every see in a lifetime. These expansive fairways are open enough to accommodate all varying swings with these trees standing tall on each side of the fairway providing both shade and a vigil to each round of golf played at the course.

Beachwood Green Side View  Amigos favorite Hole: The hole we liked best at the Beachwood golf club was the par 4, 294 yard number 10.

This hard dogleg left is a true test of a golfers ability to "put down" the driver.

The best shot is an easy 3 or 5 wood to an ample landing area 200 yards away. Even though the landing area is wide, there is a medium sized sand trap at the left crease of the dogleg as the hole turns.

Beachwood Par 3This trap is positioned perfectly for those who attempt to go straight for the green.

If you attempt to hit your driver, and hit it well you will more than likely end up in a thick hazard of brush that is dead on from the tees.

Your second shot is an easy pitch or sand wedge to an ample, slightly elevated green surrounded by three smaller sand traps.

Review Date: 06/10/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
In decent shape, staggered appropriately.

Fairways:
In good shape, lush and easy to hit from.

Rough:
In adequate shape but some areas were overgrown but still in bounds.

Traps:
Traps need more attention, well maintained traps are essential to scoring well. Weekend golfers end up in traps often and the ability to hit from a decent trap is necessary. Hard, compacted and in bad shape.

Greens:
In good shape, each green was lush to the feel and touch. These greens were easy to hit on to and forgiving for good iron play. Putting pace was medium and not hard to read.

Amenities:
Good clubhouse with all the extras. Even though the facility is a bit older, it is very well maintained.

Staff Services:
Staff was very nice, accommodating and informative.

Pace of Play:
There was some wait between groups with most of the backup at the Par 3's. We were not surprised at the wait because of the great location of the course, it's right on the grand strand.

Overall Average: 3.43, Par Course
OK Course, might be worth a play

We would like to thank Mr. Chris Collins the General Manager and the staff at the Beachwood Golf Club for allowing the us to visit and review the course.
