Apple Valley Golf Course

Apple Valley Golf Course View  Practically etched out of rock with twists and turns through the lush natural mountain setting in western North Carolina is the beauty and dazzling golf divinity of the Apple Valley Golf Course.

Part of the Lake Lure Golf and Beach Resort the majestic and magical scenery that is part of the course is worth the trip alone, but mix in 18 challenging holes of golf and you have one of the finest courses and golf resorts anywhere on the eastern seaboard.

Apple Valley was built in 1986 to expand the golfing venue at the resort. The majority difference in the two courses are the undulating and fast greens of Apple Valley when compared to the large subtle breaks in the greens of Bald Mountain.

This course has narrow tree lined fairways and a rough that is dense to say the least, both factors making accuracy in your shot making ability the main key.  Many of the holes at Apple Valley are designed to fit specifically within the landscape, exuding a feeling of serenity to the course that fits so naturally within its surrounding environment.

Apple Valley Golf Course Par 3Some of the tee box's are positioned a good distance away from the fairway and includes a varying array of obstacles to cross. These obstacles include gorges, ponds, parts of lakes and steep declines in elevation.

The number 5 hole specifically gives the feel that your hitting your tee shot off the side of a mountain, which in reality you really are. From the tee box a 175 yard drive is a must to clear the side of a hill to deep descent and landing area below.

An added highlight to this delightful and beautiful golf course is the cart ride. Maneuvering the cart along the path at Apple Valley is best described as a "roller coaster simulator", especially when your fellow golf cart driver thinks he's the second coming of Dale Earnhardt.

Review Date: 09/01/2002

Course review ratings are conducted on a five point scale. ( 1 = Double Bogey 3 = Par 5 = Eagle)

Tees:
Very well kept with minimal divot damage. The spacing of tee areas gives enough room to manage the tee area properly.

Fairways:
Excellent shape, noticeable difference from rough.

Rough:
Extremely challenging, the tree lined fairways and other natural obstacles that make this course unique leave little room for any rough and make accuracy a necessity.

Traps:
Superbly maintained and forgiving. Some of the traps on the back nine were under repair.

Greens:
Exceptional greens and challenging pin placement. Fast to medium speed making for challenging rolls.

Amenities:
Apple Valleys amenities are tremendous. A full service restaurant is located adjacent to the clubhouse and pro shop and has a delightful sunroom that overlooks the 18th green and number 1 fairway. Driving Range is close by for warming up or working out those post round kinks.

Staff Services:
Warm and welcoming with lots of that southern charm. Starter was very informative.

Pace of Play:
We could barely tell there was anyone else on the course! No wait in front and no push from behind.

Overall Average: 4.6, Birdie Course
Outstanding Course, must play recommendation
