I play about 75 different courses a year and I rank the Golden Horseshoe in my top 20. Which includes Pebble, Bandon and Pacific Dunes, Wolf Creek in Mesquite,Sawgrass etc. The guy who compared it a muni and suggested Kingsmill. I played all the Kingsmill courses and they are nice but the layout and the conditions are great at the "shoe". God only know what he was thinking.

A vintage old school RTJ design in colonial Williamsburg. Found the pro shop personnel to be a bit stuck-up, but the gentleman on the first tee was great describing the course and amenities to us. Fantastic par 3 holes, including the legendary island green 16th. A parkland style course not so much like what comes out of developers minds today. Definitely a nice and enjoyable place; don't know if I would return for $112 again though, but worth playing once for sure.

The guy Dave who compared this course to a Muni and called it overrated should take the needle out of his arm. This is one of the most outstanding courses I've ever played (and being from NY I get to play Bethpage, Shinnecock & Maidstone on a regular basis so that should tell you how highly I regard this course). There was nothing about this course not to like and its hands down has the best set of par 3's I've ever played. I'd take the 7 hour drive to play this course again in a heartbeat.

The flow of both bunkers and fairways suit the discriminating golfers eye. If you're a player the Horseshoe is a must play. The hacker may struggle more here and the cheap golfer might book elsewhere. Staff is first rate, which is to be expected.

I played last August, and the conditions were not so good. But it's got to be one of the best designed courses I've ever played. It's hard to describe, but there's a lot of subtlety in the design. you can always see where to hit, but trouble is also hinted at. In other words, there are no nasty surprises waiting beyond the next hill, only fair reward or punishment for your efforts.

One of the best set of par 3's in golf. If you live in the Mid-Atlantic region, you owe it to yourself to play here at least once.

Overrated in golf magazines. Muni course quality at resort course price = bad value. Very disappointing! Try Kingsmill - this course is not overrated.
