I'm a huge fan of Cannon Ridge this is a great golf course. Played it Sunday afternoon and was disappointed in the conditions. Yes, its green but it hasn't rained in 5 weeks so the course was soft, greens were shaggy and grainy so they were slow; putted true and rolled nicely but slow. Bunkers were a wreck...every single one of them was washed out and unplayable. Lack of maintenance was obvious. Course is best played in the shoulder seasons for firmer condition

Looks like another Fredericksburg area course is going down the tubes. Course was horribly overbooked. Took nearly 3 hours to play the front nine. Gave up on playing the back. This from a course that prides itself on pace of play. Conditions were a few notches or two below what they've been in past years. I have a feeling this place will be just like Augustine, the Gauntlet, and Lee's Hill very nice courses for the first couple of years, then run into the ground by mismanagement.

Round did not start off well. Showed up exactly at our tee time due to confusing directions from web-page. Upon check in, our tee time was not in the computer but we got out with no problems. The pro shop employee was less than pleasant. As for the course, it was OK. Several tee boxes were awful, alot of greens were in the last stages of aeration. Course itself is a nice layout and the greens rolled pretty good even with the aeration. Lots of fairway divots. In my opinion, course is over-hyped.

I played here on Father's Day and the course was in wonderful shape. The rolling terrain is always a challenge and pin placements were in tough positions this day. Back nine has a few holes that intersect each other making for some errant shots to come your way, but certainly a must play if you are in the Fredericksburg area.

Played here Thurs Dec 27 after rain the previous day. This course was in great shape and drains extremely well. While low areas were soggy as to be expected, a majority of the fairways were firm enough to allow the ball to bounce and roll. Greens were solid as well. If folks fixed as many ball marks as I did the greens would be "Augusta" like.

Played Firday and the course was in good shape, although there were a few bald spots on the fairway b/c of the drought. Didn't really come into play though. Greens were slick throughout with lots of undulation. No blind shots, but plenty of wind and bunkers to contend with. The blue tees at 6100 is too short, although the elevation change and wind made the course play longer. However, the next set of tees play around 6700, so I'd like to see something in between. Clubhouse still no open yet, only a trailer.

Beautiful course, well worth the $62.50 twilight weekend rate. Would give it an Eagle rating if the clubhouse and grounds were finished, but they are still under construction. Nice range and putting green, with range balls included in greens fee. Course is in great condition and several sets of tees guarantee a challenging layout for any player. Pin placements clearly identified, a nice feature that many courses overlook. Several blind tee shots and a few blind approach shots but aiming sticks and birdhouses provide good direction. Recommend buying a yardage book for first time players. Will definitely be returning!

A great course! Fairways and greens top-notch and a visually challenging layout; a must play!

Played the Ridge Tuesday April 3 and it was in pristine condition. Fairways were firm and fast allowing balls to run-up onto greens, just as this course is designed to play. Also, the back tees were finally put out - hadn't been able to play them since the course first opened. To carry the gunge on #3, 6 and 13 from the tips can cause severe "high ass-pucker" effect. #6 weighing in at 493! Greens were a little grainy but I don't think they've been aerified yet.

This course is beautiful. The greens are very fast, but hold well. There were no ball marks (people actually take care of the course). The layout is very hard from the back. I am a 3 handicap and shot a 76 so the course is playable. I would strongly recommend a yardage book because of the many shots that require a long carry. This course is well worth the drive.

Great course on a perfect golf site. The 12th hole gets my vote for one of the top par 4s in Virginia.

Greens spotty and slow. Too pricey for the round. Hopefully they will improve.

This course is consistenly in great shape. When every other course is brown and dried up this course was green and lush throughout. The only complaint I could make was that they almost over-watered a couple of areas. The greens were fast and smooth. Fairways were tight and the rought was lush. Nice sand in the traps. Good pace of play. Cart girl was seen a few times during the round. My group had such a good time that we decided to play 36! Definitely a must play!

Played for the 2nd time, and again was very impressed with the layout. Every hole is well-designed and it's just a lot of fun to play. The course is challenging but doesn't beat you up too much along the way. Good, fast greens. No houses in site!

Played the Ridge on Saturday and it was in fantastic condition. Tees are immaculate. The rough is brutal due to all the recent rain, so keep an eye on your ball. Fairways are firm, fast and green. The putting surfaces looked fast but were in fact on the slower side. They just wouldn't roll-out. Again, possibly due to all the recent rain. Pace of play is unbeatable in the region!

One of the best I've played. Friendly staff and great pace even on crowded days. Beware, a long course if you are limited in driving distance.

One of the best golf courses I have ever played. Course conditions rival the best private country clubs. The price varies depending on whether you walk or ride and whether you play on the weekends or weekdays ($40-$80). If you think that's expensive, trust me, it's worth every penny. My only critique of this course is that there are ONLY 18 holes.

Best greens and fairways in the area. The greens are consistently smooth, and the fairways are awesome. The only negative is that I find the layout to be a little boring. Other than the 3rd hole, there aren't any holes that stand out, and the scenery around the course is kind of blah. But the conditions make it a must play.

This is an awesome course. Fairways were just arerated but were still in great shape and the greens were phenomenal. A great layout. Plays a little long but the landing areas for a majority of the holes were very generous. A good mix of long and short par fours that require a second thought before club selection. A very scenic track. A little difficulty in finding yardages in some spots.

Just a great design and only $40 on a Friday afternoon. Every hole gives you a different look, lots of variety (for example, a 435 yard par 4 is followed by a 300 yard par 4 on the back 9), and every shot requires you to think. I'm looking forward to playing here again.

Great golf course, easily the best I've played in the area. Great mix of holes, tough par 3's, and super course condition make it a must play. I went on a Sunday am and the place was almost empty.

Played this past Sunday and the course is in awesome shape. Fairways are lush. Greens are in great shape and have already grown in the recent aeration. A couple of them could stand to have people actually repair their divots. One of my favorite courses. A complete beauty. Do yourself a favor and grab a yardage book.

I believe the course has only been open two years (8/05). With that understanding in mind, the course was in very good condition. The fairways were fantastic. The greens need a little work but seem to be on the right path. Most holes are framed very well and so are very attractive from the tee. The only complaint I had, and everyone in our group had, was that nothing was special. The layout was almost boring. I guess I had too high of expectations.

This course is challenging from all tees. Fairways and greens in excellent condition and greens are bent grass fast and true. Some holes have carries across gullies from tees and fairways. Traps are in excellent condition and strategically placed. There are no easy holes here, even the par threes are long and tough. This course is a good measure of a players "A" game. I'd play it again as one of the best in Virginia.

Best course I have played in the area. Greens were perfectly manicured, course was beautiful, and every hole gave you something different to look at and think about. I just wish I lived closer, so that I could play it every day. It's a no frills type of experience though. No clubhouse. But for me I could care less about the extra stuff. If you want a great golfing experience that is highly memorable then this is the place to come.

Played at the Ridge yesterday and came away fairly impressed. Pretty difficult track especially when you throw in 30 mph winds like we had yesterday. Lots of undulating fairways and uphill approach shots. The tee boxes and fairways were in tip top condition. The greens had been aerated fairly recently, but wasn't bad considering. They were still quick and relatively true. Couple more weeks and they should be perfectly smooth again. The course is young and I found some of the areas around the course and off the fairways to be a bit of an eye sore. A lot of downed trees and rough areas. That will all come in time I suppose. Overall it is a super nice course and will be back soon. P.S. Despite the inches of rain over the weekend, the course was remarkably dry and dampness was not really a factor

I played Cannon Ridge again on February 9th. For anyone interested, this course is still in unbelievable condition! Unlike most at this time of year, the fairways were 95% dry and the sand was fluffy and well groomed. The greens are in great shape as well...smooth, well manicured, and, I'd guess, rolling about a 9. This is without a doubt one of the nicest courses I've ever played...according to Golf Digest, it's the #3 rated new, affordable course in the country.

For a course to be in perfect shape in November, Eagle rating is a must! If the leaves weren't falling off the trees yesterday, I would have thought it was peak golfing season. The crew at this club has really worked hard, and the hard work is showing off...great job Cannon Ridge!

Nice well maintained course with plenty of challenges for all skill levels. Staff was very kind and helpful. I can't wait for the clubhouse to be built !! Only downside was the number of blind shots from the tee where you aimed for target markers in the fairway, this slowed up play a bit as you didn't know if the group in front of you cleared or not? Great place and I can't wait to go back again.

It it a very nice young course. In places the greens were bad and in places the tees were horrible. The fairways are in good shape and the service is awesome. It is a hike down there if you are coming from the DC area, but it is worth the drive.

Great course for every level of golfer to play multiple times. Try out the various tees and watch as each hole changes the 'proper' locations for tee shots, 'safe' plays and aproaches to multiple pin positions. As with most well built new courses conditions have improved dramatically since it's opening. You'll should experience it now and see what time, hard work and course improvements turn the entire experience into on you should experience year after year.

The fairways were mature, the rough was forgiving, the bunkers were lush, and the greens were good! (And this all after a week long, slow rain!)
