Played Bull Run in early November and the greens were amazing. The staff was friendly, the bloody mary's were crisp, tee boxes were clean, and the course was in great shape. It was a Monday afternoon round and the course had a cart girl driving around who was very sweet, the driving range was free, plus a separate chipping green from putting green. Great course.

Always a great track with varied and interesting holes, it fell into poor condition for several years when management stopped taking care of it. Raspberry Falls Old Hickory management is now taking care of the place and it has come back nearly all the way. An excellent play and not a house to be seen. My only complaint seemed to be to many golfers on the tee sheet...we waited on nearly every tee shot. Well worth the play as long as they fix the pace of play on weekends.

Last review is a month old. This is a great layout and improving under new management every week. New sand delivered for bunkers. Rough is rough but improving. Fairways are fine, greens improved. Less expensive than its sisters, Old Hickory and Raspberry Falls. Well worth playing. Takes 30 minutes to get there from Fairfax, same as Old Hickory. Put it in your rotation.

Waited patiently for the new owners to take the course over. Nothing has changed except the price! Membership prices increased by an additional $1000. Course filled with weeds, bunkers very low on sand, and greens in poor condition. Other than the few weeds pulled in front of clubhouse, can't understand why they thought they could get more! Also, carts are now placed at bottom of hill near practice putting green. RIDICULOUS! Someone is going to fall and break their neck. Visit next year.

Played the Bull last week. What a hidden gem. I have heard allot of mixed reviews but when I played the greens were smooth, and fast. Fairways were great and the tee boxes were firm. the rough was a little challenging but I guess that is the way it goes. If conditions stay like this I suspect the parking lot will begin to fill up fast. Better play it soon before this golf course is discovered by the rest of Northern VA.

I keep waiting to see if someone will ever fix up this once-great course. It was green today, I'll give it that. Bunkers had virtually no sand. Rough was more overgrown than a foreclosed house's lawn. Maybe I could let that go as "intended" conditions, but it was full of unplayable divots instead of real rough. The greens were spotty and a bad aeration job done a few weeks ago. It’s a travesty what management has done to this course.

This is the 3rd time that I have played this course and each time it different. The first time, it was brand new, young with great potential upside if managed properly. The second time it was in terrible condition and overpriced at $95. This time, it was very dry with temporary tee boxes on some holes, priced fairly at $60. I always find myself wishing that they would develop it into a premium level experience. This course should be a birdie or eagle, but it is not there yet.

Great layout with some risk reward holes. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with course conditions and overall experience. I had an 8:12 tee time and they were already 15 minutes behind. The rough had weeds throughout the course, tee boxes were less then satisfactory and the tee box on hole18 was closed. Even some of the greens looked burnt out. I'm not sure what's going on at this course; however, the twosome we were paired with said this course used to be great, but has gradually become poor.

The course was in the best shape I’ve seen since it opened. The greens were in excellent shape and the rough was well maintained; although a little tall. They need a beverage cart and more staff in the clubhouse! Other than that, conditions seem to be turning around.

The views and the course are nice but management is lacking in customer relations.

The course was in decent shape considering the drought we've had this summer. The course layout is varied and challenging, a little better than the other public courses in western Prince William. I didn't see any of the bees that have been mentioned in previous ratings, but did see the holes they created in the greens. Its a nice course, but I don't think I would pay the full rate to play here, I took advantage of their lower August rates.

The course has potential or had potential. The layout is challenging and has some creative holes. Course in relatively good shape, rough is gone but it's that way for most courses. If this was a municipal or a lower end daily fee course, that would be fine, but the course promotes itself as high-end daily fee course. High-end courses do not have wasp/hornets on 12 greens. Not just 1 or 2, sometimes hundreds swarming every green. Golf is tough enough without having to worry about being stung.

You can have a nice course but management can still screw it up. After checking in and taking my high priced green fees, I was informed of an outing on the course in front of me, and lots of course maintenance (airifying, etc.). I'm given a cart that is dirty, full of cigarette butts and a used scorecard. And no range balls.

I really like this course layout and it really favors my game as I regularly shoot in the upper 70s and low 80s here which is good for me. The downside is this course is really overpriced at rack rate $70 during the week. Conditions are OK at best. Tee boxes and some fairways/rough are not in good condition at all. Certainly not upscale fee course condition. If this were priced better, I would rate it an eagle. As is this is average at best.

I give Bull Run a mixed review. The course design is very good and the conditions were good for early spring. Greens need about another week and should be in perfect condition. The course is routed nice and you seldom see more than one hole at a time. On the other hand don't charge me $85 bucks on a Sunday morning to play then another $6 dollars for 15 range balls. If you nickle and dime your customers you do nothing but tick them off. It's classless, I'll gladly take my business elsewhere.

Fairways and Tee boxes were in great shape. Really nice course and a good challenge for all golfers. Only negative was greens had just been aerated. Due to the greens being aerated, there was a layer of sand covering majority of the greens. This made putting rather difficult as it seemed no matter what kind of breaks you read ball seemed to always travel straight due to the sand. Other than that, overall great course and enjoyable round.

Played here in a scramble Monday. Where are the hornets? There wasn't even a bumble-bee to be seen. That "urban legend" must be just that. They're redoing most of the tee boxes so the course plays short. Fairways were in decent shape - some of the greens had burnt spots, but nothing disastrous. The course is in tough times but the layout is great, with great golf holes like nums 2, 4, 7 and 9 on the front and nos 11, 14, 17, and 18. I'm sure an extended Autumn will bring this course back.

One of the better daily fee facilities in the area. The course gives players plenty of room off of the tee, but becomes more demanding on the approach into the greens. Conditioning has unfortunately been very spotty over the last two years. The course almost lost all of it's fairways last year. They are beginning to rebound, but dead spots remain.

First, the giant cicada hornet nests in greens are REAL. Fortunately they only have a life span of approximately the month of July. The course seems to be letting itself go these days. Fairways and tee boxes get worse every year. Such a nice location and layout, can someone please bring it back to glory?!

Played within last week. Greens in horrible shape again due to massive holes being dug by wasps. A lot of the fairways are also in poor shape. Have played here consistently over the past several years and this is the worst shape I've seen Bull Run in that time. I hope they find a way to pull it back from the edge since the course is in a beautiful setting. The Clubhouse staff said nothing about the course's poor shape.

I also played on the Summer Solstice. The course was in "pretty good" shape. A few of the tee boxes were a little fuzzy (grass too long), the fairways were in great shape. As for the greens, I found them to putt very true but they were a tad on the slow side. Also, whoever cut the holes for the day could have done a much better job. A few holes were very ragged and several had crowns requiring even the shortest and straightest of putts to be firm.

Played the Summer Solstice on Monday Jun 19 and the course was in solid condition. However even with the lack of rain and water many of the fairways were soft while others were firm and fast. Greens were the stongest part of the course. They were full, receptive, had speed and putted true. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Course is in much better condition than it was last year. It’s a good layout where you don’t see any houses. The only issue I had was the pace of play. It was a 5.5 hour round and we were waiting on every hole.

Forget all the silly stuff about monster wasps. Didn't see any, so they must've addressed this issue. This course is very well laid out, with nice variety, pretty good isolation from traffic and homes, but both the greens and fairways were in very rough condition. Downright tornup, although workers were everywhere trying hard to improve conditions. Lovely 18 to end with water and bunkers. Good service and terrace.

A scenic, challenging course. Excellent staff assistance, they pick up your clubs at the car and place them on your cart! Check out the dining facility.

Condition improved so much with the change of the management. Greens were in good shape with decent speed. Back 9 still needs improvements with condition of the fairways. Overall the course is shaping to be in good condition, again.

Fairways are disaster areas -- several are being retilled due to their condition. Several greens continue to have the monster wasps. Wait until this course is fixed before returning!

FORE... Pro shop did NOT inform us when we booked that they had lost about half their fairways to some problem. They are gone. They gave us a comp card good for one round by 10/31/05. (I can't imagine the fairways will be back by then.) This brings the cost per round down to $45. Im sure we will use the card and then never play there again. Bush league move.

Great course with a horrible flaw: wasp nests on at least 6 of the greens!

I was really disappointed that such a nice course was so unplayable due to the *swarms* of giant wasps that plagued at least 6 greens. Some of the greens had moderate amounts of wasps and were still playable, but for the others, it was down right dangerous.

Shame on the management for charging nearly $70 and not taking care of this very obvious problem. I will not be returning.

This is a beautiful course, nice layout and in great shape. The only problem was we played it the day after a big storm that washed out the traps and we played lift, clean, & place from the fairways. I was plugged at least half a dozen times. I would like to go back when the conditions are more favorable. A bit pricey @ $90 and they don't include range balls for that.

Nothing wrong with this track! Thanks to all the negative reviews, my buddy and I had the whole course to ourselves on a Thursday afternoon in late June. Greens rolled great and the condition of the course was just fine for me. Not sure where the negativity comes from, because for $40 after 4:00 on a weekday, it's certainly worth it in my book. I will be back!

This is a wide open course, which makes it easier to score lower. Easier on the hackers of the world too. Definite must play.

What used to be a nice course has gone way down hill. Even with a fun layout the shocking conditions have made this course completely overpriced. This course has gone from a 9 two or three years ago to a 2 or 3.

Played 15 August 2004 after not having played the course since the late 90s. All involved with the course should be embarassed by how far the course condition has deteriorated in the last few years. Every tee and a number of greens were almost bare; the fairways were filled with crabgrass or no grass at all, and a number of greens suffered holes dug by cicada honets nests that made putting not only futile, but dangerous...it's sad seeing such a great layout being ruined by inattention/neglect.

played this course for the 2nd time this past saturday (7/31/04)...while i once again enjoyed the layout, the condition of the course was awful...at least 6 of the greens were virtually unputtable due to gigantic wasp nests (golf ball size holes in the ground with 2 to 3 inch piles of dirt surrounding each)...another 3 or 4 greens had a few of these nests but were at least playable...to make things worse, there was no mention of this issue in the clubhouse nor by the starter...avoid this course.

I played this course 10+ times two years ago but was a little disappointed at the condition of the course when I played it last fall - 2003. Challenging course for good players but forgiving for mid-high handicappers. Greens usually roll true (except for last fall). Truly an enjoyable layout with a good mix of water and woods.
