Course is a great layout, but weekday rate of 65.00 is a bit much for the shape of the course. Greens were cross cut almost a month ago and the grooves were still there and made putting fairly difficult. Rest of the course was in good shape especially the bunkers. Service was top notch as usual except for the marshal who was driving in circles and doing absolutely nothing to keep pace of play flowing. Here's a hint...If you have 4 groups on a par 5 and 2 holes are open ahead, the first group is playing too slow!

A great layout with nice elevation changes with some risk reward holes. I will say that hole 13 is not a fun hole with a layup tee shot to unseen hazards followed by a PW layup to a 100-120 yard approach shot. Unless you can clear the gunge that separates hole 11 and 13 you have no shot to get home in 2. Otherwise, friendly staff and good conditions. A must play.

Just got done playing 36-holes for $45! It is some August promotion or something. The course was a mental test due to all the elevation changes and hazards surrounding the greens. Pace of play was good, fairways soft though well groomed, greens were spectacular, and the tee boxes were excellent. A great golf course.

Great layout, very friendly people, very above average greens. Challenging when first played and you must avoid trouble areas which is often not clear from tee box. I will come back play here and you must play from the right tees. If you don't it lead to a tough day on the course. You can be in trouble if you are too long off the drive; played slow at times.

Worth the trip out to Front Royal. The course is in great condition despite all the rain recently. The greens were smooth and pretty quick, a true test from the tips with some rather lengthy par 3s.

Blue Ridge Shadows is great course in Front Royal VA. If you have not played there, then you make an effort to get out and enjoy the course. The layout is very challenging. The front 9 is very scenic. The back 9 has been rearranged putting the old 18 as 14 and then finishing with 4 holes in the valley. The only drawback to finishing holes may be there length, but that's why you have 13 clubs in bag. The course was in good shape for early in the year and the staff was very friendly.

Played in early November and the course is in very good to very good shape. Staff was pleasant and unpretentious and the price is low. The layout challenged both physical and mental game. Physically there are many shots hitting downhill and side hill lies. Your driving, iron play, and putting are all tested. On the mental side tough to calculate yardages due to elevation changes, many risk reward approaches and short game decisions. A very enjoyable venue. The downsides is there are too many views and sounds of the highway, range is marginal and slow cafe service at the turn.

Returned this past week and the course was in usual exemplary condition. This is not a parkland pitch-and-putt straight layout. If you have a high handicap you WILL struggle mightily here. Especially if you have not played the course before or don't have a yardage book to know what to hit and what not to hit. You will use every club in your bag at this course, which, among other things, is the hallmark of a great design. Course is hard but fair. If you got game, I strongly recommend!

This is a par plus or birdie course. Doesn't measure up to many of the raves; the criticisms are well founded. The greens are well conditioned, fast and interesting. Some holes are strangely designed; see other posters' comments. Didn't care much for No. 10, a blind, severely uphill par 3, or 16, which is a par 5 where you should lay up off the tee. Staff was uneven at best and they crammed some groups in. Overall, worthwhile and similar but way better than Rock Harbor in Winchester.

I was really looking forward to playing this course, hoping it would be worth the hour and half drive. Not so much. On several holes, all four of us were searching for the our balls because of blind landing areas and penal slopes that would send your ball into the woods or some 30-40 foot drop off where balls go to rest forever. Hole number 14 is a great example, tee shot over the bunkers to split fairway divided by enviromentally sensitive areas, non of which can be seen from the tees.

played again on Saturday, and like most courses this time of year, aeration of greens was recently done, so temper your enthusiasm in that regard accordingly for now. Otherwise course in usual spectacular condition. Can't say I've ever heard of too much sand in bunker as a problem before, that is a good thing! I play the blue tees and hit drives 300 plus yards with roll, back up tee box if want to hit more drivers. Only holes 11, 13 and 18 are non-driver friendly, which is a good mix on any course.

A nice mountain layout that emphasizes accuracy over distance. However, playing the white tees takes driver out of your hands if you can hit the ball more than 200-yards and the course was in poor condition. The most significant, but not the only issues were that several greens had bare patches and most of the traps had too much sand, which led to buried lies.

Staff from top to bottom was excellent with kindness and courtesy. Views of the mountains were nice, but commercialism is filling the scenery with a view of a hotel being constructed and a factory plus water tank in the near distance. However, holes were a challenge on this tight track that is well bunkered with water. Should be more trash cans on the course rather than one per nine. Hole No. 10 certainly my favorite with elevated tee box looking down on fairway.

Stay in the center of the fairway's lot of roll.

During the past month I have played some nice courses: Caves Valley, MD Ponte Vedra, FL Rum Point, MD. The Blue Ridge Shadows is nothing short of spectacular and rates right there with the above mentioned locations. The layout is fun yet very challenging. You must posses a combination of finesse and good ball striking to get around this track. "Fair Warning" you can be mentally sucked up by the breath taking views of the Shenandoah Mountain Range. I cannot wait to play this course again.

Superb hidden gem of a course out near Front Royal. One of the most challenging shot-making courses I've ever played. Tough but fair, you have to think on a whole lot of shots with many options on what to do. Conditions were excellent, great value, what else to say. I will happily return. I would recommend purchasing a yardage book prior to your round as it will come in handy crossing some hazards and accessing your correct yardage.

This is a great golf course with a nice layout and variety of golf holes. There are some holes open to the wind, some holes in the woods, some holes playing around lakes/ponds and creeks. Each hole presents its own challenges. There are also some nice vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains on some holes. Similar to other new courses, the conditions will fill in with time. It is worth the hour drive from the beltway.

New course that can't wait to play again! A friend a work told me about this difficult treasure. I was not disappointed! There are a few blind drives and even a double green. The mist off the waterfall came right at the heat of the day - it felt great. There is a river running through the course that now owns several of my balls. Very scenic. I need to make it back soon since the course added a few strokes to my handicap and I need those back.

Beautiful new course about hour and fifteen minutes from the beltway. The scenery setting and golf course are very nice. Once it grows in it will be beautiful. A tough challenge, so pick the right set of tees.
