Double Bogey

This course has gone from marginal 30 days ago, to extremely poor conditions. It appears that the greens were over watered, and fungus has killed 1/3 of the putting greens. The tee boxes also have lost massive patches of grass. Maybe management can get the course back to par by next year. But I would not play it at any cost.

I used to rave about this place, but it has gone to crap. New ownership was supposed to take care of the condition issues, but it has gotten worse. Tee boxes lost on every other hole, fairway grass as high as the rough. When was the last time this course was mowed? The layout is really good, but it's hard to appreciate when you are hitting out of giant mud patches in the fairway. Really a shame, this used to be a great course.

Played a mid-morning round on a Monday a few weeks ago. The course was virtually empty so pace of play was a non issue. The course was really a tale of two nines. The front nine with the exception of holes 1, 8, 9 had patchy rough, long grass in the fairways and bunkers filled with rocks. The greens were in decent shape however. The back nine was mowed, the rough was in much better shape but the sand was iffy. All in all a very playable and diverse layout that doesn't have the TLC it once did.

Always one of my favorite courses. A real challenge but fun. I have never been disappointed with the condition of the course. Well maintained and very nice staff.

Course was not in great shape but playable. Greens were slow, inconsistent, and a little bumpy. The layout is excellent and one I wouldn't mind playing again. Accuracy off the tee is at a premium here with tree lined fairways. Plenty of doglegs and elevation changes to keep things interesting. At times you'll find yourself without a clear second shot if you end up on the wrong side of the fairway. I'd go back and play Augustine again.

The course was very nice with a good layout and nice staff. I would have like to see a beverage cart but other than that, I had a really good time.

Was once a great course and now is just sad. They should take down their articles on being named in top 100 you can play. I was told the owners cut the courses budget drastically and it shows. It has become a cow pasture where fairways are almost rough and not very green. Rough is awful, even has moss. Greens are rough. Only way to "vote" is by not playing there. Maybe someone can reason with their Japanese ownership. Shame because the layout is still outstanding. Do not bother playing here until it improves.

This course has really gone downhill the last couple of years. It's one of the best layouts around, but weedy fairways and marked up greens ruin the experience. I've never seen greens with so many unrepaired ball marks. I don't know if they'll ever get this place back to what it used to be.

Great layout. The conditions were a little spotty, they need to mark the course a little better, and the service in the club house was disappointing. Some improvement in these areas would take it from three flags to four.

Nice course. A good challenge. Fairways and greens were in great condition. Started early and finished in just under 3 hours.

I think the course is great and the workers are very friendly and hard working, especially the starters and marshalls. The greens are well kept and maintained keep up the good job.

Great Rick Jacobsen design. The layout is challenging without being too difficult. Conditioning has been spotty in the last two years.

I love this course, only wish the conditions would improve. Used to be one of the best when it was in great shape. still, it's a must play.

A reasonable but difficult course that challenges both your physical and mental game. I played the course in the scorching heat of July and it was still in decent shape. It will definitely be added to my regular rotation of courses.

This course has definatly gone down hill. I paid over 50 bucks yesterday afternoon and I wouldn't have paid 30 bucks. The greens are poor at best and the fairways are shotty. Many of the bunkers have no sand in it. From a distance the course looks great but up close almost every course in the area is better. Very disappointed. It has fallen a long ways.

Great course, friendly service. I highly recommend! #2 is among the toughest holes I've ever encountered, tee shot and approach shot over water.

I have played this course many times and I think this is the worst shape I have ever seen it in. Greens had just been plugged, and I use that word because they used the gigantic holes. When I called the shop did not mention that they had just plugged the greens, but still charged the 52 dollar rate. Our cart broke down and when they brought out a new cart the attendent stood there and watched me switch our bags to the new cart. Fairways were so so, tee boxes were ok. Very long round.

Best layout I've seen in the area. The conditions were kind of on a downturn at the end of last summer, but usually the course is in really good shape. It's tight and it's tough, but it's a nice course. If you get a chance to play it in early-mid May, the sights around the course are Augusta-like.

Bittersweet is how I would describe this place. The layout is spectacular. The conditions were well below average. If they ever reclaim this course from where it has fallen to it would be a must play. I can see where this was once a spectacular place to play golf, but right now it is not even up to a quality municipal standard. I certainly couldn't complain about the pace of play, as I basically had the whole course to myself. It really saddens me to see such a great course so run down.

It is such a shame the course is haveing such a bad time of growing fairway grass. Obviously there is alot of play and not enough maintainence to the fairways and greens. I am sure it can be a top area course with lots of work because it is well laid out.

Lives up to it,s reputation as an incredible layout. Also, a very beautiful course. I wish the shape were a little better, but it's not so bad that it detracts. I've played it 5 times in the last two years and keep going back.

Played in early December, 2004. The layout is excellent, greens well protected with bunkers. Fairways and greens in excellent shape. Well worth the 50 minute ride from Fairfax.

After hearing what a great course Augustine was I finally made a tee time. Well the round left me with mixed feelings. The design and layout is outstanding. But the condition was below average. No sand in bunkers, shaggy tee boxes, spotty fairways and greens with many ball marks. You can see from the design why the course has had so many accolades when it opened in 1996 but obviously the management of the course has went downhill big time.

Challenging layout, especially the first two holes. Just started allowing carts off the paths this year which has sped up play. Under new management, they are working to re-capture Augustine's excellent reputation of great conditions, fast greens, and good service. As in the past, some of the sand traps need work, but overall the course is in excellent shape.

Great course, always in great shape, lots of different challenges to keep it interesting. About 40 minutes from DC, but worth it.

I have played Augustine 5 times and would rate it as one of the best upscale courses in the area. The course is usually in excellent condition.
